The only positive thing I can think of about the "Surge"
Before I start, I want to make it clear that I am absolutely against the war and for a pull-out as soon as possible.

That being said, if the plan for a surge is implemented the long term ramifications may benefit the country. Although the immediate ramifications would be the pointless loss of the lives of good men and women, the eventual result would be a death blow to the Neo-Con ideology and the delusional dream that if we would have simply thrown more men at the problem we would have triumphed.

Ever since Vietnam the hawks of this country have blamed the doves for not having the fortitude to enter into a war completely, to "do what needs to be done." Since the inception of this war, they have attacked us for being "weak willed", and "afraid to take the war to the terrorists." By allowing the surge to take place and giving the hawks a chance to fail on their own terms we will have effectively emasculated their argument. They and their dreams of glory will have been proven wrong once and for all.

By finally taking away their "weak on defense" cudgel they have beaten us over the head with for 30 years they will no longer have the gravitas to pull us into unnecessary unilateral wars. In the long run, proving their bravado to be a mask for foolishness may save more lives than blocking Bush's "surge".

1. No, the Neo-Cons have no shame.

It's all a last gasp pay off to their wealthy buddies in the War Profiteering Industry and hopes that it just may spill over into bombing Iran,i.e., keep the wars ongoing.

Too bad the troops don't realize that it's all for profits, not justice. :puke:

We didn't learn a damn thing from Vietnam so now we have to wait until the troop death toll exceeds 58,000?!?

On Edit: We finally have to take a stand: ANY democratic representative or senator who follows through with supporting this accelerated "sucked into the intake" death march, I will not ever vote for in the future. It's NOW or NEVER! I'm marching in D.C. at the end of this month for Impeachment.

2. they suggested escalation of 50k. bush brought down to 20k, which
even if this was a way to combat in iraq, will fail because once again he does it half assed, concreted to failure. but ultimately it is because we dont have the troops to send. now the number is 15k-20k which tells us he gets we dont have the troops lowering the number ensuring failure before it has even started. doubt there will even be 15k by the time it is said and done. this will be another example of bush incompetence and repugs backing the ncompetence at the expense of our troops. and it will be a jab at mccain run and lieberman.

5. 50,000 wouldn't make a difference. Neither will 20,000. The pentagon wargamed Iraq in 1999...

They wargamed occupying Iraq in 1999 with 400,000 troops (I suppose that would require an international force), and they predicted then, four years before Shock & Awe, that a chaotic hellhole of violence, religious demogogery, looting, terror, and regional destablization would break out. The only thing they missed in their prediction was the bit about regional destablization. They're all pretty unified in hating us. I guess kudos for that go to Mister Uniter-Not-a-Divider.

6. and this is the given. my point was to show, even when first suggested
(even though it would fail) they recognized they needed a hell of a lot more than 15k

Implementing the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission and Securing Our Borders.

It isn't even necessary for their "Surge" to Succeed on any terms other than that there is Indeed an Escalation of this War immediately in Bagdhad, so that there can be nukes or chemical weapons used SOMEHOW by SOMEONE (and there ARE many candidates for those two elements).

This is a "Surge because I say so . . . ." The only ABSOLUTELY certain outcome of which is an INCREASE in Death and Destruction - C - H - O - S - E - N by One Man: Dick Cheney.
