Edited on Fri Jan-05-07 03:53 PM by notadmblnd
When Charlie Rangle first brought up the subject of the draft. I applied to sit on my local Selective Service board. Looks like they finally have an opening. Here's what they sent:

Ms Xxxxxxxxx,

We have received your on-line application for being a Local Board Member of the Selective Service System in 4 DEC 2004.

We have an opening in the Selective Service System Local Board in your reside zipcode are (your zip code at that time is 48326).

If your home address is still xxxx Xxxxxxxxx, Auburn Hills, MI 48326, and you are still interested in serving, please reply with your contact phone number so that I can arrange for an interview to start process your application and to become a SSS Local Board member.

You can either reply to this email or call me on my Mobile (Cell) phone at 586-202-1101 at your earliest.

Thank you.

4. Interesting indeed
the letter has me wondering if something is going to happen fairly soon. I applied a couple years ago because at the time I was thinking, what better way to help insure that rich republican kids don't get off the hook if there is a draft.

7. I do believe that is part of the draft boards responsibilities
to decide who gets deferments. How can you tell who's republican? Honey, over the last 6 years I've gotten so good that I can pick them out of a crowd just by looking at them.

9. I sincerely doubt that.

My children have gone to private school for varying lengths of time and there is no way to pick out who is Republican and Democrat, except by talking to them at some length.

Would you have pegged Martha Stewart as a Democrat? In the years before her show trial, she had given over $200,000 to the Democratic party. If she had had a son, he certainly would have been wealthy. Would that have been a good reason to send him off to Iraq, do you think?

10. I'm sorry, there is no smilie
that indicates a tongue in cheek comment. Of course I can't tell just by looking at them.

8. Oh yeah? And how are you going to decide who's a Democrat and who
is or isn't rich?

My son's a Democrat but he goes to school with and lives near plenty of wealthy Republicans. I'd hate to think he'd be one of your targets, because he'd be trying to be a conscientious objector.

I also sent in an application, but there aren't any openings at the moment.

But I'm on the list! :)

5. I did see that earlier today.
let's hope I'm just filling a vacancy and we don't really have to send any of our kids over there.
