Those lazy weasels! Out at a damn football game! How dare they?
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 04:27 PM by originalpckelly
I wonder who's paying for their airfare?

Why was this allowed to happen?

Congress is off, certain members are going to a freakin' game. I guess that five day work week pledge is no longer operative.

10. Boehner apparently requested they not have votes until Tuesday, and Hoyer accommodated him,
and yet this is being spun by GOPers (and some here) as the Dems stepping back from their promise of reform :eyes:

11. No, no, no...
No exceptions except for holidays or illness. This is fucking ridiculous, these people are paid up the wazoo!

They didn't have to pledge it, not at all, but they did and they need to stand up and do it. That little Boehner should have been turned down!

13. I see no reason to believe they won't stand up to it
They've been in power for, what, four days? If you want to believe the sky is falling, you go right ahead.

This is what they said they would do--schedule the first vote of the work week at 6:30 on Monday evening, and adjourn by 2:00 on Friday afternoon. This week, they're voting at 10:30 on Tuesday morning. That's one week. That doesn't mean they're "backing off" their promise. Now, if this becomes a consistent thing, we might have something to worry about. But this is a special occasion, granting a request from across the aisle (they promised, after all, to respect republicans), and ought not be construed as symbolic or indicative. Unless, of course, one has an axe to grind or just wants to make the dem leadership look bad.

14. If you think a damn football game is enough to suspend the work of Congress...
Then there's no point in arguing with you over this.

16. I never said that, of course
I said that it was a concession to bipartisanship, with the majority leader granting the request of the minority leader, and that it represents ONE instance of a shortened work week. That it is not symbolic or emblematic or symptomatic of Dems reneging on their promise of instituting a full work week in the 110th Congress.

But if you think that the first week of congress is indicative of what the dems will do or means that the dems won't actually institute the five-day work week that they've promised then I think you're panicking prematurely and that you're buying into (and selling) the GOP line on this.

17. We have to hold them accountable and keep them in line...
we don't want them to start fucking around like the Republicans did. They already had a massive dinner/show with a bunch of lobbyists. This is not a good way to start.

23. It's a bunch of bullshit to suspend the entire proceedings of the house...
just so a couple representatives can go out to the game.

25. It's a bunch of bullshit to say that not holding votes at 6:30 tonight means the dems are
backing off of their promise to bring a full work week to the 110th congress.

But if you want to accept the right wing's spin on this and continue spouting right-wing talking points, that's your business.

18. Well, thank goodness, I'm glad someone else isn't going to kiss ass.
And the problem is also that they allowed Republicans off, only one Dem went to the game. Everyone else was a Republican.

People can be individually absent, why did they have to close down the whole US House?
