CIA reporting that US. planes and ships were fired on by Iran.
Similar to President Johnson's Gulf Of Tonkin incident, the CIA will report that US. planes or ships were fired on first (by Iran) before they took drastic measures to defend themselves. 9-11 Part 2.

17. It's appears to be purely click-bait.
Phrase the subject of the message in a way which appears that something has actually happened (i.e. "CIA reporting" as opposed to "CIA will report"), then phrase the body of the message in the less-sensational manner. I usually put people who do this on ignore. There are a few posters on this board I disagree with strongly but I usually don't put them on ignore. Even though I may disagree with what they've got to say, at least I know they're not tricking me into clicking.

Click-baiting is not necessary, posters! There are just as many articles on the greatest page which start with something you'd think nobody'd click on like "So I was downtown the other day..." or (whatever). Really. But we're living in a time where we would not be surprised if an incident like that happened.

And so what does this do? This thread was posted 2 minutes ago and it has almost 250 views. That's extremely high, and I guarantee that at least 200 of them sighed and closed the thread when they realized they'd been misled. It dilutes the quality of DU.

Please stop it. It's not necessary.

PB

23. Link - Gulf Of Tonkin was the point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gulf of Tonkin Incident
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_Incident

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident was an alleged pair of attacks (the second of which may have been a false alarm) by naval forces of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam against two American destroyers, the USS Maddox and the USS Turner Joy. The attacks occurred on 2 and 4 August 1964 in the Gulf of Tonkin. Later research, including a report released in 2005 by the National Security Agency, indicated that the second attack did not occur, but also attempted to dispel the long-standing assumption that members of the administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson had knowingly lied about the nature of the incident

3. Ok that is one totally misleading headline.
You are speculating that this is what will happen in the future while you are using the present tense, as if this is happening right now, in your headline.

Or to put it more bluntly: stop being a dick.

9. I've been predicting for a while now that Bush might 'sacrifice' an
American ship or something, blame it on Iran and then 'retaliate.' Or he might stage another 911 as the impetus for a wider war. The man is completely NUTS now!

24. It sounds like a news headline
People probably came here looking for a link to a story wherein what you said actually happened. Your little speculation is quaint, but I think it made a lot of people nervous before they clicked on the link and found out you were just thinking out loud, not posting a news article.

Everyone on DU is aware of * strategy of "False flag" operations. The title of your thread, leads people to believe this is actually happening, and is misleading.

Leads me to believe it is just to gain attention. Sad.
