My first Youtube video on Hurricane Rita
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 09:48 PM by Mortos
I just got back from Louisiana where I visited my various family members in and around the Cameron Parish area. It was my first visit since hurricane Rita hit in 2005. The damage there was overwhelming and resulted in the complete destruction of the little town I lived in and my father was raised in. Entire towns consisting of thousands of people and homes where completely wiped out not one single structure survived in the towns of Grand Chenier, Cameron, Creole, and Holly Beach.

Anyway, I was inspired to make this video using the music of my cousin's cajun band trying to bring a little light back on Southwest Louisiana and the havoc this storm caused.

I hope lot's of people see it and enjoy the music. If anyone is interested in buying a cd from the band, I don't know how to do that but I am sure I can find out. The group's name is Honky Tonk Band and all the members hail from the area most damaged by Rita.

3. I'm getting this msg; what's your video called?
The video you have requested is not available.

If you have recently uploaded this video, you may need to wait a few minutes for the video to process.

Mortos, go to the video forum, and it pretty much walks you through the process to get your video there.

4. It's called Hurricane Women
It is the name of the song that accompanies the video. I don't know what the problem is. It works then I get the same message then it works again. I thought it was up and running. Try again if you want. It seems to be random as to whether or not it works.

7. You can imbed videos in the Political Video Forum
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=385

GUIDELINES FOR THE POLITICAL VIDEOS FORUM - Please read before starting a thread in this forum

1. VIDEO FORMATS
Your video must be hosted at YouTube.com. The DU Political Videos forum does not currently accept video from other sites. If you have a video from another site, you'll need to upload it to YouTube before you can post it in this forum. See YouTube's Help Center for more information on how to upload.

2. HOW TO POST IN THIS FORUM
After you click the "Post" icon at the top of the page, you will be asked to submit the URL of your video. Go to the YouTube page which contains the video you want to post. In the box to the right of the video, just beneath the "Tags" section, you will see a textbox marked "URL." Copy the entire URL from that box, and paste it into the Video URL box on our Post page. YouTube URLs look like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CfvWdiAaRM

3. VIDEO CONTENT
This is a political website so we expect the videos to have some political content or relevance to current news stories. Be aware that all DU rules -- including rules regarding which topics must be posted in which forums -- are applicable to the DU Political Videos forum. (For more information, see the section titled "Where to post various discussion topics" on our detailed rules page.) Be aware that the administrators of Democratic Underground reserve the right to remove any video from this forum at any time for any reason. In addition, since these videos are hosted on YouTube, they may become unavailable if the host site has technical problems or if they are removed from the host site for any reason.

4. VIDEO TITLES
You do not have to use the same title as the original YouTube video, but please make sure that the title you enter matches the content of the video. This will make videos much easier to find.

13. I lived there for a year when I was a teen
I went to South Cameron High School which was completely destroyed. I went to Holly Beach which is gone. I went to Cameron and Creole, both decimated. The Catholic church we attended was gutted and the graves, including my grandfathers were damaged or worse, the bodies were washed out of the coffins.

It is unbelievably sad that so much was destroyed and yet most people don't know anything about it. My father guessed that only 25% of the people who lived there will rebuild and move back.
