Poll question: Serious Poll: Is our president insane?
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -ties
1 : a deranged state of the mind usually occurring as a specific disorder (as schizophrenia)
2 : such unsoundness of mind or lack of understanding as prevents one from having the mental capacity required by law to enter into a particular relationship, status, or transaction or as removes one from criminal or civil responsibility
3 a : extreme folly or unreasonableness b : something utterly foolish or unreasonable

--------------------

This is a strange moment in our history, the rule of an insane president, appointed by his insane former president father. We here have been in the know about the president's decades of cocaine abuse and alcoholism, and his increasing madness, but apparently the rest of the nation won't believe it.

Like with FDR and his polio, we are being protected from the fact that our president is now unable to fulfill his presidential duties due to his obvious mental instability.

Is this a fantasy, or a real cause for alarm?

but that's just me.

The fact that he knowingly does these things disqualifies him from being insane - dangerous asshole would be the best description

3. I came to that conclusion during his debates with Kerry...
he's a certifiable lunatic. His behavior is beyond bizarre. Whoever those individuals are that are covering up his mental state are committing high crimes and treason against this country.

4. Not Insane
I don't want to give him the excuse of insanity. I would rather address his positions and stances head-on, without the benefit of allowing him an "out" by saying he had no control over it.

Other than you disagreeing with his positions, what other evidence do you have that he is actually insane?

5. Well, he's incredibly short-sighted...
...and friends with those who reap incredible benefits from his deadly policies. I'm not sure that makes him insane, but the distinction may be unimportant. He's not fit to be our president, certainly.

7. I think he's insane
Anybody would have to be to enjoy killing that much and I thought so before he became President, when he giggled at that poor woman's execution. I told a friend that was exactly why this man wasn't fit to be President, no matter what your views (friend was a Republican).

10. legal definition:
Inability to appreciate the nature and consequences of ones actions. Inability to distinguish right from wrong. Some jurisdictions require also that the aforementioned conditions stem from an organic disorder.

So no, he is not insane, just an amoral asshole.

11. Clip of him on news last night at some photo op -- sad
They showed an extreme closeup and he looked like he was about ready to have a stroke... He was a little shiny from perspiration and his hair a little messed up -- like he'd just been on a hour-long roller coaster ride. He looked like he could either cut his wrists or go postal.

17. You can tell he's mentally unbalanced just by watching him...
There often is a disconnect between what he is saying and his demeanor. One moment he will have a sort of hurt and bewildered expression, sometimes coupled with a vacant stare; then he will suddenly launch into what is obviously a rehearsed comment, his accompanying facial expressions also looking forced and rehearsed.

The only comments I have ever heard Bush make which had any ring of authenticity and sincerity to them have all been cruel.

Something is very amiss with the man.

to our nation, its people and the world, as 'WE' have seen and experienced during the past six years. It is my opinion that political candidates should be required to undergo psychological examinations and testing to determine their fitness and sanity for running and holding political office.

22. I agree, he is a serious danger and if we let this little man get
his way we will be in deep shit, deeper than what we are in right now. Seriously though the man is unfit and mentally unstable to hold office, he needs some sort of psychological and psychiatric intervention right now.

33. A great danger
I agree, he is a sociopath, and a simpleton, which makes him easily manipulated. He is also a part of a great, diseased sector of society called the 'neocons' - America's corporatist fascists, who along with Christian fundamentalists (theocratic fascists) are currently in an extraordinarily brainwashed state of mind. Republicans are akin to Germany's Nazis, whom the German government has now so kindly banned. If only America could do the same with the Republicans. They are the world's greatest danger, and currently our only hope is that American voters will come to their senses in 2008 an beyond.

28. False choices
While he's not insane, neither is he "just stubborn and resolved". I wouldn't say he's 'resolved' (too nice a thing to say); he's wilfully ignorant, uncaring, lazy, and resistant to ideas that don't fit his prejudices.

34. I'm sure there's something(s) in the DSM that fits him.
I'm pretty sure there's something in the DSM that fits everybody and anybody though. I don't think he's schizophrenic or bi-polar though. If anything, he's a megalomaniac driven by his delusions of grandeur which have been nurtured by his ultra-elitist upbringing. Even more dangerous than that, he is driven to extremes by the universal neurosis, religion. So, to answer your question, yes, I believe in all seriousness that he is, to some extent, insane.

There is probably a DSM diagnosis that fits him. However, he's not legally insane, in that he knows the difference between right and wrong.
