Our latest installment of DINO-huntin: Henry Cuellar (TX-28)
The Democrat who Cuellar primaried last time wants his seat back. The deadline is March 5th.

What makes him such a DINO? He's apparently so right-wing that even the Blue Dog Dems want nothing to do with him. Given that I've been told the Blue Dogs make the DLC look like Kucinich, thats saying something. He was one of the 15 traitors who voted for CAFTA (a vote by the way, where we had enough Republicans to shut this thing down)

But if you need further convincing, look how much Shrub likes him

His challenger, if you wanna help out.

1. Cuellar was Bush's Secretary of State

when Bush was TX governor. Don't think for a second that Cuellar's a Democrat at heart.

In fact, the district he "represents" (and I use the term very loosely) was carved out of Bonilla's and Ciro's district, literally at the LAST MINUTE during the redistricting fiasco. Cuellar has always been close to Bush. When Delay et al saw that he came very close to beating Henry Bonilla in 02 because of how well he did in Webb County (Laredo), they (probably upon Bush's urging) carved out a district for Cuellar so that 1) he would no longer be a threat to Bonilla and 2) hopefully get rid of Ciro. With the help of some felony vote tampering in Webb and Zapata counties, he barely beat Ciro.

I watched the returns during the primary in 02. I watched Zapata county, like 626 eligible votes. 9:00 pm no returns, 10, no returns, midnight, no returns, 2 am no returns. Zapata county didn't even have returns with their little 626 eligible voters until noon the next day and even then there was almost a 100% voter turn out. Then the recount in Laredo ended up with more votes for Cuellar than there were eligible voters.

Of course, Ciro sues and loses in the Republican controlled courts. All the while, TJ Connally, formerly a big Governor Ann Richards' supporter has turned mercenary and lies in front of God and everyone else about why this was a fair election.

From what I understand this time, Ciro's folks are not going to let any of this happen again. They're prepard.

2. That's no sign of affection
When Little King George fondles one of his subjects, it's not out of love, it's royal condescension.

Of course, Mr. Cuellar might also be a major DINO. There's a name for that, but it isn't appropriate on a family website like DU.
