Has television replaced politics?
It seems that way sometimes. Marshall McLuhan may have been right. The medium is the message, he said. How he felt about that assessment isn't clear, but I bet he's chuckling now.

1. Between TV and anti-depressants
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 09:38 PM by StClone
At my work place between 40 and 45% use anti-depressants. Now I can not argue as to their need as I have seen great results with them. But, I do have an observation. Many on anti-depressants seem to undergo a focus shift that seems to dull their senses that leads to a tuning out or lack of alarm on matters political. Inferring this nationwide I can see anti-depressant using Americans allowing the U.S. to become a NeoCon playground and Baptismal vessel of the X-tians. Along with TV's effects, there's a vast wasteland of humanity lost to manipulation and apathy.

a New York accent. I just love it!

3. Has television replaced politics?
Politics and television are one and the same. Most people can't differentiate between the two these days.

9. Yeah, and I wanna work to remind folks that TV is not going to do anything
politically for them. It's a shouting publicity match, overall. Personal involvement in politics - local, state wide and national - holds the promise of real time change. What was that old 60's phrase? saw it on the DU Homepage this morning - The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

10. I think that a lot of people do realize that it's not televised
I have the DU shirt that says "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised...It's Online!". I had it on when I went to Crawford (Camp Casey 2 - final weekend), and I walked past a guy who said "Hey - It IS being televised!". My response was "Yes, but not enough of it."

We know that the news is a bunch of shit, that's why we gather here and on other websites...to get the truth and to organize.

5. You said it! and that piped in Clear Channel in all our Grocery Store,
etc. at High Decibel has replaced our reasons to think. "Block it Out" is what I hear when I complain..."Block it Out."

How much can we block out before we are marginalized...as "Fingies?"

I don't know....:-(
