At the Army hospital, Bush joked about a scratch he got in "combat"
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 08:03 PM by Rose Siding
The brush fought back....and by "brush" I mean "coffee table" and by "fought back" I mean "remained stationary"

President Bush makes a few remarks after visiting wounded soldiers at Brooke Army Medical Center, Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, in San Antonio, Texas. President Bush is sporting a cut on the left side of his forehead from cutting down brush on his ranch.

At the hospital today, he "joked" about his injury. I know :eyes: I couldn't believe it either:

snip>
The president had a two-inch scratch across the left side of his brow.

"As you can probably see I was injured myself, not here at the hospital but in combat with a cedar," Bush quipped. "I eventually won."

This strikes me as odd. Do you suppose he asked this woman if he could kiss her?

he just go to Alabama for the duration of the brush clearing and let some democrat handle it?

5. That seems in pretty bad taste
joking about "combat" with a stick with wounded soldiers who were in real combat, facing a whole lot more than a rogue twig.
What a callous twit.

35. Sometime if you can
go to bradblog.com and in his show's archives try to find an interview he did with a solider from Iraq. This solider told of his meeting with Bush and how disrespectful it was. I remember when Cindy Sheehan was on Mike Malloy's show she also told of her meeting Bush that first time and told how distant he was and creepy.

Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 02:49 AM by lyonn
to a degree IF he would at least spend some time talking about the wounded soldiers and the sacrifices they are making and how his heart goes out to them and their families for their suffering, etc. He very briefly mentions the soldiers and then goes on about himself and the Terrorist and saving all us peons, grinning and laughing most the time. Unbelievable! His handlers must be suffering! There he was, eating the crayons instead of drawing.

Edit: Love that picture!

I can't believe he actually said that.

I also noticed a bruise on the other side of his face while he was speaking at the hospital. On his right cheek.

6. yet another facial injury?
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 08:12 PM by Lisa
I seem to recall that even the NY Times editorial board (not exactly known for workplace safety tips) published a warning, about Bush's brush-clearing without adequate protective gear. So his scratch could have been avoided.

I suppose that the vastly-more-serious wounds of the soldiers (some probably missing limbs) were similar in that they could also have been avoided -- by Bush not sending them to war on a bogus excuse!

13. of course. If it's on his beautiful self ...
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 08:21 PM by Lisa
... even an infected hangnail is far, far worse than a missing limb or lost eye suffered by someone else!

p.s. when he got that scratch, he probably didn't have to wait more than a few seconds for medical attention, since a doctor and nurse are always there with him -- whether he's exercising or cutting brush. I wonder how long some of those wounded soldiers had to wait, in agony, before they could be evacuated and treated?

"Q Now would the doctor and the nurse both normally be here, or is it the chainsaw that brought them out?

THE PRESIDENT: No, they're with me -- like when I ran this morning, they were here. They go everywhere I go on the ranch."

I agree, a ward full of combat injuries is no place to kid about your scratch, especially if you're responsible for those injuries. You also raise an interesting point about King George kissing that American solder. I keep telling these people down here, "know the tree (or bush) by its fruit."

Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 08:33 PM by Marr
I think the man is a fall-down drunk, personally. As I mentioned in another thread, I've been mountainbiking for almost 11 years and taken countless spills. I've eaten hundreds if not thousands of pretzels. I've pulled out more dried vegetation around my yard than I care to recall, and *none* of it has ever given me an injury on my face.

Plenty of lacerations on the hands and torso, but never the face.

On the other hand, I've known people who regularly got facial injuries. Every single one of them was a drunk.

42. Does any soldier tell him to fuck off?
I know he's the commander-in-chief and all that, and they all have a lot of discipline, but there must be times when one of them gets so pissed off at him making jokes out of something very serious just for his own amusement and gratification. If a 12 year old said that, you'd tell them to grow up. It's his fault they're injured, so it's far worse that an ignorant kid saying it, and yet he'll stand in front of them and make light of it.
