Bush:"Imagine what would happen if these extremists who hate America...gained control of energy res"

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/01/20070111-7.html

President Bush Visits with Military Personnel and Families at Fort Benning, Georgia
Freedom Hall
Fort Benning, Georgia

1:10 P.M. EST

<snip>

Imagine what would happen if these extremists who hate America and our way of life gained control of energy reserves. You can bet they would use those reserves to blackmail economies in order to achieve their objective. If we were to leave before the job is done, if we were to fail in Iraq, Iran would be emboldened in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. Our enemies would have safe havens from which to launch attacks. People would look back at this moment in history and say, what happened to them in America? How come they couldn't see the threats to a future generation? That is why we must, and we will, succeed in Iraq. (Applause.)

1. Isn't that what's happening right now?
Extremists who hate America - Exxon-Mobil and Halliburton. Yup. And they're in charge of our energy reserves.

3. not friendly
Id was thinking Bolivia, Venezuela, etc. I think the emirates are pretty pissed at us as well, come to think of it. Saudi Araibia is not monolithic; many members of the extended royal family (including many who hold high positions of power) are Wahabbi fundamentalists who hatee the US.

7. hating the US may not mean hating the US people
so you have to make a distinction, like hating the Chinese government or the Russian government isn't the same as hating the Chinese or Russian people in general.

8. I had the exact same initial thought.
Medicare premiums and costs killing Americans
Corporate profits staying with execs while Americans go uninsured
Oil/gas companies reaping incredible profits while tens of millions live in poverty

5. It's not about oil. The hell it isn't!
It has come down to this. No WMD's, no Saddam, no democracy, now it's "we got to hang on to the oil." That was the reason in the first place. Alternative energy sources anyone?

9. "Do unto others what you're afraid they'll do unto you, and do it first."
I guess all precious commodities have their rules - that's the Oily Rule, I guess. :puke:
