1. Oh, it could get a lot rougher.
Like after she and the rest of the cabal get indicted on multiple charges related to Iraq.

I can dream, can't I?

That said, today is just the first of many.

2. I kinda feel sorry for her...
Not really that much, but, I mean, shouldn't it be Shrub himself sitting there getting this grilling?
Man, I wish we had the "Questions to the Prime Minister" (or whatever it's called) like they have in England's Parliment.

:spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

Neocondi is just as evil as Dimson. Their whole cabal is equally evil, because they all support one another and all share the same worldview. This crew all deserves to be in the Gitmo they created.

3. Condi is going to find the need to spend more time with her family soon...
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 11:03 PM by mike_c
...or, since she doesn't actually have a family, and she's undead anyway, she'll make up some other excuse. But I still want to believe that Condi is too smart to go down with dubya's ship. Nor do I think she's ambitious enough to be unable to bail on the remote chance of being around to pick up the pieces. Today was Condi's wake up call. The sharks in the water know that she's the weak swimmer in this administration.

4. That is more truth than people know
They say that Condi Rice has a drinking problem. Back when she was in to it, they say she would have to be taken home by the secret service at 12PM when they had parties. And that time was when she called bush her "husb".

5. This is the way hearing used to be I think.
In fact I go back this far. When as high school kids we used to go home and turn on the hearing. I think they were called the Army hearing and even in high school we were talking about them. Every one was mad and I am not sure if they were the first on TV or what but they caused a lot of to do with every one it seemed.

33. I think so. It was almost another life time ago.
Such as it was we had a TV early as my father said he saw it at the World Fair and it was finally here? What ever. The darn thing had a test pattern most of the time I swear. We also did not put a thing up on the roof as my father said it would hurt the roof but living om a point in the ocean I guess we got it in from Boston. The hearing must have been something special because why would kids and every one be watching them and talking about them? The Reds were the thing then.

25. I detest neckties ... and have only rarely worn one (LOOSE) in the last 25 years.
I was a corporate 'droid for many, many years. Three-piece suits, wingtips, ties ... the whole ball of shit. The only necktie I enjoyed was the one with "Screw U" logos on it. It was my experience that 3/4ths of guys who wear 'em hate wearing 'em but do it because it's "expected." By whom? The same guys who hate wearing 'em, it turns out. Insane. "Fashion" codependency - cultural 'misery loves company.' I now have a simple 'fashion standard' - clean and comfortable. I wish hospital scrubs were the prevalent clothing style - infinite colors and prints, but clean and comfortable and easy to wash. Birkenstocks or athletic shoes. Fanny pack. A gore-tex parka when it's cold. Works for everyone, imho.

15. Gee...I haven't had anyone tell me...
to get in the back of the line in a long time. :eyes: Somehow I sincerely doubt you'll work on women's issues...there's always something more important than we are.

You also might want to consider learning to multi-task. Start with walking and chewing gum at the same time and work your way up from there. You might be surprised at the number of issues you'll eventually be able to care about at one time.

You could have made your point without throwing out the sexist insult but you CHOSE not to...which reflects on you.

WW III hasn't broken out yet. Is there any bullshit excuse y'all won't use to justify continued use of sexist language? Any height of hyperbole you won't aspire to? What's next...if aliens invade the planet and enslave us all to work in their dilithium mines then sexism won't be a big deal?

And you'd be surprised how many priorities I can keep in my pretty little head at one time.

28. Nice straw man. (Or is it "straw person")?
"Is there any bullshit excuse y'all won't use to justify continued use of sexist language?"

I in no way excuse the use of the word "bitch". You are evidently not above putting words in the mouths of others. Such hysterics and ridiculous ideas coming from self-described feminists doubtlessly hurt more than help the movement.

Given the current events and situation with Iran, the idea that the people in this administration (and Dr. Rice) do not want war with Iran is totally laughable.

In a war with Iran, Russia will not be on our side. China probably won't either. In fact, I suspect most of Europe will be content to sit this one out. It will, quite literally, become a world war.

"Any height of hyperbole you won't aspire to? What's next...if aliens invade the planet and enslave us all to work in their dilithium mines then sexism won't be a big deal?"

Oh yes, because the snowballing effect of a war with Iran is such hyperbole right now. And it should absolutely be equated with an alien invasion. :eyes:

"And you'd be surprised how many priorities I can keep in my pretty little head at one time."

I'm sure you can keep many priorities in your head. (When did I ever say you couldn't?)

However, from what I have gathered, you've decided that some silly comment by an anonymous poster on a left-wing message board is more worthy of your anger than the very real possibility of this administration militarily attacking Iran.

This isn't about sexism. It's about the effects of words vs. actions. And I don't need to "justify continued use of sexist language" in order to draw the conclusion that the action of attacking Iran, and at the very least its consulate, is far more important than some offensive word said by a random individual posting on a message board, no matter what that word is.

I have a hunch that if we invade Iran and suicide bombers start attacking places in the United States, like, say, Austin, you're not going to care so much about the OP's one comment about Dr. Rice. Just call it a hunch.

I'd like you to show me where Velma ever said that a "silly comment" is more worthy of anger than the possibility of an attack on Iran. SHOW me.

She didn't; you're obfuscating to try and throw off the argument and paint her as unreasonable.

But ya know what? It's not unreasonable to ask that we refrain from gender-specific slurs here. You seem bright enough, so I'm sure you're able to understand why the terms are offensive; is it just that it annoys you to acknowledge that it's a change you should make in your vocabulary? I don't get the hostility. I really don't.

The words bitch, cunt, pussy--are all offensive and demeaning. They're associated with weakness and contemptibility. So many of us have pleaded and pleaded and pleaded for other DUers to please stop and think about what they're saying, and just choose other words. It's not that hard. And asking you to do so in NO way indicates that our priorities are out of whack. Kindly tell me why it should be so difficult to discuss (and work on) multiple issues simultaneously? Everybody multitasks every day. It's not hard. And it doesn't mean shunting to the back anything else that's also important.

To lash out at Velma (or me or anyone else) is completely misplaced anger (or annoyance or whatever you want to call it).

It's so simple: why can't you just use other words? I have an MA in English, and I assure you, there are legions of words in our wonderful language that would be better.

30. "Asshole" is gender specific?
What about the old saying - "Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one"?

I know what you're saying - "asshole" is usually used to describe men and rarely women, although on the other hand there are cases of the word "bitch" being used against men.

I'm more openly wondering how "asshole" got to be so gender-specific when the word itself really isn't.
