OMG! THE DAILY SHOW: Robert O'Harrow's book: "No Place To Hide"
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 11:47 PM by berni_mccoy
Ok, now I'm really scared...

:scared:

John's comment that the government gaining access to all the information corporations have been gathering on us and then fucking it up sent chills down my spine...

The point being that ok, now the gov't is accessing all the info about us that big business gathers on us to determine if we are risks to national security... now imagine they get it wrong and start locking people up in gitmos/abu gharab like prisons with no access to attorneys and having them torture you or your loved ones to get information from you that you don't even have about crimes you haven't yet committed...

This is really Orwell's 1984!

3. Knowing bits and pieces of it
and then having it laid out in a book by someone from the inside are two completely different things...

5. Recommend reading the book-I read it when it first came out
it discusses the databases that collect this info, such as Choicepoint, or Seisint (Seisint and its origins are particularly obnoxious).

Raises the issues of collection of information about you that, forget the government, is being collected and sold by corporations with virtually no oversight by anyone but the market.

2. Try to find the film
"UnConstitutional." That's scary too. I THINK you can see it at http://www.informationclearinghouse.info but I'm not sure if they do have it or not. I think they do.

8. Roe Vs Wade affirmed a right to privacy.
The republicans may see it as a roadblock to total information access, not a "pro life" issue.

10. Mike Malloy is reading 1884 -- but how do WE verify the info collected?
How do we check and verify the mass amount of info collected by corporations.

We've had incidences of credit card companies having completely incorrect info on us. Where they get this misinformation is a mystery.
