SEVEN antiwar demonstrations tonight in different San Francisco area cities
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 01:42 AM by redacted
with 2 in Downtown San Francisco (Civic Center and Powell at Market Sts.) on the SAME DAY, then an evening march all the way down Market Street

Early video posted at this website (available now, Flash format):
http://kron.com/

On KTVU Oakland, a FOX affiliate, the evening protests were the #2 story at about 10:03 PM. Watch this website for video posted later tonight/overnight:

BTW, these folks are in the streets tonight in spite of record low "hard freeze" temperatures, below freezing already in some areas.

1. I was at the one in Santa Rosa (In front of the recruiting office)
I estimate the crowd at 150-200 people, carrying signs and candles.

Lots of supporters honking horns, of course.

The dozen or so military recruiters inside looked pretty freaked, and/or amused.

3. You are in Santa Rosa?
If you ever get to Tiburon, let me know.

I have been here for years and have never been to Santa Rosa.

Maybe I need to get a life.

4. No, I'm in Guerneville (West Sonoma County,on the river)..
I do get to Tiburon once in a while. I work as a chimney sweep, and I also do boat repairs and restorations. Both my jobs get me to Marin sometimes. I've lived in Fairfax, Lagunitas, and Inverness, and have lots of friends in Marin.:hi:

5. Damn, W G, I already knew that. I am getting old and slow in a hurry.
Pardon me.

Lately, I am forgetting more than I am retaining at a much more rapid clip than I am comfortable with.

Oh, well, we can't expect to be good forever.

There was a time, however...

2. And it IS some kinda cold, here.
I wouldn't walk down the hill if Hank Williams was playing on the sidewalk on Main Street.

Good for those hardy souls!

Quickly Organized Through Internet
KGO By Lyanne Melendez

Jan. 11 - KGO - The president has a long way to go before he wins the country's support for his new Iraq policy. An ABC News poll taken after he spoke last night shows 61 percent oppose a surge of troops; CBS puts the figure at 50 percent; the Associated Press puts it at 70 percent. People are coming up with new methods of showing their opposition.

There were more then 30 war protests organized today in the Bay Area alone. How did we find about the protests? The same way that everybody else did -- through internet organizing, which has changed the way people gather.

At noon today, dozens of people gathered outside San Francisco's City Hall to protest the president's plan to increase the number of troops in Iraq.

Nicola Drake found out about the demonstration only hours before.

Nicola Drake, Protester: "About mid-morning today one of the women in our law firm sent around an email from the Democratic Party and our firm decided that we would all come outside here, we work nearby."

It's called viral emailing.

14. Thanks again Expat; one source says 30 or more demonstrations Thursday
Another report from KGO says the station counted about 30 demonstrations or marches in the SF Bay Area yesterday; the 7 that ABC7 talked about on the 11PM news were just those after dark.
