Blast at U.S. Embassy Called 'Terrorism'

By NICHOLAS PAPHITIS
Associated Press Writer

ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- A rocket was fired at the U.S. embassy early Friday, striking the front of the building but causing no injuries. A senior police official said the blast was an act of terrorism.

Police cordoned off streets around the heavily guarded building after the explosion shortly before 6 a.m. The shell struck the third floor and smashed glass in nearby buildings.

Investigators found the device used to fire the rocket shell at a construction site near the embassy.

"This is an act of terrorism. We don't know where from," Attica Police Chief Asimakis Golfis said. "There was a shell that exploded in the toilets of the building ... It was fired from street level."

Embassy officials confirmed that an explosion had taken place and said that no one had been injured. U.S. ambassador Charles Reis said the damage was "not extensive."

2. After just watching Death of a President
I'm sure I know how this is going to play out. The culprit will be identified as an Iranian national and there will be more pressure put on the whole march to war with Iran. Even if that doesn't happen, the loons will always remember that the person was an "Iranian national" and will always bring that up when the debate of war with Iran REALLY heats up.

There. Do I have that down pretty well?

3. Most terrorism just strikes me as almost too dumb.
Sorry to put on my tinfoil, but the stupidity of these attacks makes me seriously wonder. I can think of many truly brilliant attacks, yet they attack the embassy in Greece with a rocket. Dumb, predictable, designed to piss off the US without causing any real damage to US interests. What is the point?

it wasn't part of a video game.

Given their recent legislation against video games, I mean.

6. "It was fired from street level" went thru a window 30 feet off the ground,
bounced around a bit, and landed in the toilet.

This oughta be on break.com.

Check out where it went thru the window on the upper left of this pic.

and somehow ended up in the turlet.

Yeah, that's it.

Weirdest indirect fire, ever.

7. False flag
there is no doubt.
Real terrorists don't wait for the building to clear.
And I doubt many are RPG ace enough to make the shot.

and claims by a left wing group. The Ambassador or his rep said 'there can be no justification...'

Bet the kidnapped from the Iranian Consul had the same view.

12. Well, duh...
I would think most people would assume that a rocket fired at a U.S. embassy was an act of terrorism.

That takes about as much deductive power as declaring that a corpse that had shown signs of being shot, stabbed, beaten, poisoned, run over, and strangled probably died as a result of foul play. (Unless, of course, we're talking about a black mayor in a white town in Mississippi, in which case it was obviously suicide. :eyes: )

16. How do I know that:
1. My tax dollars didn't go to buying the manufacture of that bomb by McDonald Douglas or some other weapons builders, and

2. That bomb paid for by my tax dollars wasn't fired by am employer of some rogue operation, also paid for by my tax dollars, contracted by Blackwater, in order for the White House

3. to summarily, without appropriate investigation, deem the act to be one of "terrorists", hence say Iran, and start a dossier in order to

4. go to the U.N., get their resolution, and then bomb Iran with the illusion the world won't care, stop them, or hold this country accountable for its actions -- again.

19. You don't. You also don't know that...
this attack wasn't done by magical invisible monkeys from Mars.

Considering that such attacks by domestic groups are quite common in Greece, we can use Occam's Razor to conclude that it most likely wasn't either such scenario.

22. So then, what we did in Irbil, Iraq, was......?? also an act of terrorism????
how can one be, and not the other...?? weren't both buildings being used for the same type of operations? or does the one not count, because it was in Iraq, and had to do with Iran??
