What kind of comments are you getting when you call Congress re: impeachment?
I just called Conyers. He's not representing me, unfortunately. I have horrid reps (Inhofe/Coburn/Sullivan), so it couldn't possibly get worse. (Well, OK, bin Laden/Hitler/Mussolini might be worse.)

At any rate, I expressed my concern that impeachment wasn't on the table, and asked how that could possibly be without an investigation. I told them I was definitely for an immediate investigation and impeachment proceedings when evidence was documented that opened that door.

I asked how many calls they were getting regarding impeachment, and they said some but it wasn't overwhelming.

DUers, it's time we OVERWHELM Congress with calls, E-mails, and letters DEMANDING AN INVESTIGATION into the actions of the Bush White House, and DEMANDING IMPEACHMENT when evidence is gathered that indicates wrong doing. AND WE NEED TO DEMAND THAT THIS IS PUT ON THE FAST TRACK! FOR THE SAKE OF PEACE AND OUR TROOPS!!!

1. Calls and emails wont cut it.. remember
Miracle on 34th street, when dozens and dozens of mail bags were thrown on the judges desk...well write those damn letters, spend the 39 cents and send letters over and over and over. Of course I don't the MSM would show pictures of all the mail bags but some KS could take a pic and circulate.

3. I think you are on to something
I also know for a fact that most Congress critters' staff don't even open mail from people who aren't in their Congressional District, or Senators, their state. They just don't have time for anything but constituent mail. Which is too bad, because my Congressman is a butt-ugly, Abramoff-crooked Republican.

I'll concentrate on my two Senators. Even though Warner is a Republican, I've always gotten a response. And Webb, well I think he's angry enough without my help.

6. But also call Webb to let him know the voters are mad too! It will help him
in his resolve.

4. Impeachment is a dish we bring to the table.
If you want to put an action together, I'm so in. Monday is a holiday - Tuesday? We could plan it and disseminate the info over the long weekend. You let me know, Andy.

7. Don' just call for impeachment, ask them WHY they are failing to defend the Constitution. . .
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 02:01 PM by pat_k
. . . with the ONLY weapon we gave them put an end to precisely this type of attack.

Ask questions that elicit their irrational fears of impeachment. Simply asking "Why?" or "What 'reasons' (rationalizations) for inaction are members of the Democratic caucus giving?" or "Do you have any idea how ridiculous that sounds to the folks outside the beltway?" forces them to put their fears into words and allows us to directly challenge their rationalizations.

They are victims of insider "group think." Reality tends to smack a person in head when they are confronted with someone that finally calls their shared, false, assumptions into question by forcing them to try to defend the indefensible.

Call even the most reactionary rightwing Reps. Don't any of these people to be able to say "none of my constituents is calling for impeachment."

There is NO rational justification for their self-imposed and indefensible "impeachment is off limits" edict. There is NO escape from their duty to impeach to defend against the war on the Constitution Bush and Cheney have declared with their policy of torture, criminal spying, abuse of signing statemetns . . we have so many irrefutable charges the only task is to pick the simplest and clearest. (Some candidates http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=3082014&mesg_id=3095521">here.) If they don't convict on the first set of articles, just vote out the next ones on the list.

Having a place like this thread to report what they are saying is great. Let's others know what rationalizations we need to challenge -- and we do have a challenge for each and every rationalization.

Regarding "Investigations First"

We know EVERYTHING we need to know. (If you doubt this see http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Senator/11">Only Impeachment or http://journals.democraticunderground.com/pat_k/8">We're Doomed! Doomed I Tell You! (An Impeachment Intervention))

It's all public record. Sure, hold Impeachment Hearings to make the powerful case we already have, but to call for "investigation" is a statement that we don't have a case. That is a lie that will be echoed by the opposition ("They are just fishing. They don't have anything, if they did, they'd impeach now." (More on this http://journals.democraticunderground.com/pat_k/13">here.)

Regarding "they" will crush us with accusations of "partisan coup"

See http://journals.democraticunderground.com/pat_k/12">Turning accusations of "partisan coup" against them is simple. . .

9. I just thought of something. Maybe we could use the threat of
impeachment to stop the war on Iran.

It's worth a shot. Thoughts?
