Standing Tall and Speaking Truth

That's our job. We see the lies, we are not fooled by the illusions cast into the public mind for the last several years, and we were the vanguard of the 2006 Legislative turnaround. We fought tooth and nail for something, anything, to stop this administration from continuing on its reckless course.

We opposed the war, we fought for the rights of the abused and downtrodden, we spoke up for the soldiers being shoved into the meat grinder, we spoke out for the poor innocent Iraquis caught up in a perpetual nightmare.

That's what we do. We speak for those who cannot speak, and speak to those who may listen.

That's part of who we are, and one of the services we provide to our fellow Americans and humanity in general.

And we're proud of it.

And we should be.

We write letters to the editor, we blog, we post things here on DU. We engage our representatives, and we share what we learn regarding the secret deals and hidden strategies, as well as their deceptive framing of current events to manipulate public opinion.

We understand that this administration and its assertions have been little more than a six year marketing campaign. They marketed war, profiteering, betrayal of the public trust, revelation of the identity of intelligence assets, domestic spying, and a myriad of other things that most of the corporate media never saw fit to investigate or even comment upon.

And damn good we did. We helped to get certain Republicans kicked out of office. Despite the collaboration of the corporate media, we got the message out. And we're still doing it.

We deserve a pat on the back--even if we have to give it to one another.
