Wow you guys check out what a new DUer did for another DUer
This is just amazing. Aundria 75 posted a thread in the MO forum about the march in DC on Jan 27 and said she really wanted to go. So gratefultobelib paid for her trip! I am on the MO statewide steering committee and it's legit. She really paid for it!

So how about a really nice DU welcome for gratefultobelib! :woohoo: :woohoo:

I kinda like that name, anyway :)

2. Left message at link. A true Angel. Too bad there are not more
people like this. The world would be a great place if there was.
I'm originally from Kansas City, Mo. and always knew the people in Mo. are great. But, this is out of this world.

5. MO has really become red state hell
but yes, there are still good people in KC.

If you ever get back to KC, let us know and we will have a meetup. We really don't need much of a reason to party! LOL

Thanks for posting that proud2Blib, it put a big smile on my face.

Hope gratefultobelib sees this thread of appreciation.

10. DUers are great.
About two years ago, I lost my job (I have a much better one now, thanks) and one my dogs got deathly ill. DUers chipped in and helped me with the $500 vet bill. Unfortunately, my doggie  had a congenital problem and could not be saved, but I'm still thankful for all the help I received from these great people during that rough, rough time.

I passed it forward. I'm not saying how, but I passed the generosity forward the following Christmas after I had a better job.

Here's a big hug for gratefultobelib:

13. this is the america
that I think most of us envision. Where one person does what they can for another -with no promised reward other that the 'donee' knows they have extended themselves for good purposes. When my grandmother died we were surprised to see a number of strangers at her funeral. Turned out that over the years, (depression years included) she had either made sure they had some food or winter coats or some such. She never mentioned these acts to us.

Thank you gratefultobelib for reminding me of the 'power of one'.

18. Just got back from a county Dems meeting
And talk about a conservative bunch. They are going to be sorry I got elected. LOL

First, while we were eating breakfast, the man next to me said something about Ford and I said "I am glad he is dead." That went over like a lead balloon.

Then I made an announcement about our bus trip to DC in 2 weeks and I added that we voted for a change in November and even the Dems need to be reminded of that. So we are going to march on Washington - 500,000 of us.

Well after the meeting, this little snot nosed 20 something came over to me and said "well I suppose you don't approve of our congressman" (he is a Dem but a DINO and has voted consistently to support the war) I said as a matter of fact, I did have a hard time voting for him in November not only because of the war but he also voted for the torture bill. She then went on this tirade about how her cousin died in Iraq and we would be oh so wrong to pull out now.

Fortunately another lady about my age had walked up while the 20 something was talking to me. So I looked at the little girl and said war is always wrong. Vietnam was wrong, and Iraq is wrong. I reminded her that Iraq had not one thing to do with 9/11 and Bush illegally invaded that country. I asked her if she understood why he did that. I asked if she thought her cousin had died for a noble cause. She said yes, we are trying to stabilize the middle east. The other lady then went off on her and told her that is NOT our job, we should never have invaded Iraq in the first place and 3000 of our soldiers, including her cousin, have died needlessly.

That's when I put on my coat and came home. I was glad I had at least one supporter in that room.

Yes, we got ice but my wonderful hubby cleaned out the garage so I could park my car there last night. And we have a 3 day weekend. So I am happy; conservative Dems be damned.
:hi:

32. Thank you all so much for the warm welcome!
I didn't expect so much individual attention, but hey, I'll take it! It was a genuine pleasure to donate the money for the DC trip. I wish I had discovered DU several years ago, like, um, 2001, but at least I HAVE discovered you!

I know you will all be able to identify with me when I say that the emotion I felt after the 2000 election was so intense, almost more than I could bear. My Dem friends were upset and disappointed, but I was wa-a-y more than that--I was FURIOUS! I loathe, loathe, loathe well, you know the rest...

I'm glad to be aboard and I'm working on that post count!

those numbers consist of a lot of "cat" posts , "food" posts, "he/she-done-me-wrong" posts. "hey look at my new car" posts..

you get the drift.. Quality always reigns over quantity (most people here who have been here a while have both), but we were ALL newbies once :)

42. Well I think you are awesome
and of course I agree with your politics :)

I am in KC (I live in Overland Park) and we have DU meetups!! We are actually a pretty active group. So watch that Missouri forum and please come to our meetups. As soon as you have enough posts to receive PMs, I will PM you and let you know about our meetups. But I also usually post the details on both the Kansas and Missouri boards.

We have people from Columbia to Topeka active in our group. You would be amazed by how many DUers are right here in your backyard.

And if you do go to DC, please let me know. I will be there and I really want to meet you.

Thank you so much for what you did. What an awesome awesome thing to do for someone you don't even know.

:woohoo:
