McCain "opposition to surge must spell out consequences"
OK dickhead, allow the left to retort.
We don't like the surge because it is just an extension of the failed "stay the course" strategy. We never supported the war because we knew that Iraq would be a mess, thus requiring occupation, for decades.
We knew that violence would not reduce terrorism or make the world safer. I got the names of over 3000 brave folk that most likely would agree with me.
You want to know the consequences of "no surge", well here it is.
Iraq will not be a unified, pro-west, democratic, stable nation. (I never thought that it would be)

If you want me to support the surge, send 200000 troops (which is what this hairbrained scheme needs), which imho constitutes overwhelming force, commit them for 10 years, and give them clear and achievable objectives.

Anything less then this is uncivilized.

2. Proponents of "surge" refuse to spell out consequences - why
should McCain expect those who are saying 'no deal' to have to explain themselves.???

The man is not credible or stable I believe.
Regardless of his military experiences, or (and I say this with respect, and much thought) because of those experiences.

Traumatic life experiences change you forever.

12. So true. And they refuse to talk about what happens if it fails.
Their only response is 'failure is not an option'.

Bull. With this GOP group Failure 101 appears to be a required course.

9. I doubt there will be peace
I'm sure there will be more violence, until a stable force can provide security.

4. Cost benefit analysis: no benefits, all losses
Edited on Sat Jan-13-07 10:39 AM by teryang
Putting more lives and resources into an effort that has palpably failed to produce any benefits and only caused tremendous losses is against basis defense economic policy. McCain knows this, he took the course at the Naval War College, it's called Defense Economics 101. The basic principle of the course is cold calculation, sunk costs are no costs. The past costs/sacrifices made in a conflict are irrelevant, the only relevant considerations are future costs and benefits.

But McCain and others won't speak in terms of the known principles of defense economics because:

1) the defense contractor constituency is profiting wildly.

2) the energy sector is profitting wildly

3) the banking sector is profitting wildly from the overvalued petrodollar, which is subsidized by the rest of the world and extremely overvalued. The value of the petrodollar and its monopoly status as a world currency was threatened by Iraq and is threatened by Iran. What is going on now is a globalized version of the nazi Hjalmar Schacht's theory of economy, enforce the value of your currency by force.

4) Armed conflict arouses patriotism and group think knee jerk responses to alleged or manufactured security crises, this is how the energy-defense-banking class manipulates the public into doing what is wrong: conquest and colonialism.

6. I have no respect at all for McCain.
He is either totally insane or he is just trying to position himself for what he thinks is ultimate political advantage in the 2008 Presidential race. Someone who has actually experienced war should know better than to support the Chimperor's "plan."

10. He claims that a defeat in Iraq would be Catastrophic
for the United States.

The defeat has already happened, and (like a cat trying to cover up his dirty deed on a linoleum floor), no amount of effort to the contrary will change the fact that Bushco has created the FUBAR of all FUBARs.

They're willing to sacrifice the lives of more American troops so that they Can get out of office and blame the next guy for the failures.

REPREHENSIBLE!!!!

11. I think that we will be able to come back from this defeat
They should just declare victory, like Trump says.
