Tax Strike to stop the war
What if a massive tax strike could be organized to stop the war? I hate paying taxes to fund death and mayhem when they could instead be used for healthcare and education. Since I have no say in how the money is spent, I don't want to pay.

What if the 75% of people opposed to the surge did not pay taxes until the war is stopped? I know some social services would suffer, but striking workers also suffer when they seek a better wage. A sacrifice worth making if it would work - but everyone would have to do it since they cannot prosecute EVERYONE. Plus, once the war is stopped, I would gladly pay the back taxes - but no interest.

I know is it such an idealist thing to imagine being able to stop the war in this manner, but I am at my wits end with this asshole of a president.

Hopefully COngress can really assert itself by impeaching so drastic measures need not be taken.

1. Actually I have been suggesting the same thing for months. One way
is for all of us to ask for an extension until October. Of course those with payroll deductions have no choice, but even they could add the maximum deductions allowed so that less would be taken out. It mat be the only way.

5. An extension is only for filing, not paying the $$$ to fund bush's crime spree

3. History of war tax resistance
Thought you would like some background on withholding taxes as war resistance.

http://www.warresisters.org/history_wtr.htm

"Up until World War II, war tax resistance in the U.S. primarily manifested itself among members of the historic peace churches — Quakers, Mennonites, and Brethren — and usually only during times of war. There has been instances of people refusing to pay taxes for war in virtually every American war, but it was not until World War II and the establishment of a permanent, centralized U.S. military (symbolized by the building of the Pentagon) was the modern war tax resistance movement born."

6. Two good reasons this is a bad idea.
1. If you don't pay your taxes, you go to jail.

2. If enough people didn't pay taxes that ity actually impacted the ability of the government to operate, social services would be cut first. Why? Because everything beyond the government services mandated by the US Constitution can be cut out for lack of funding.

By the way, forget about impeachment. Without 67 Senators who will vote to convict, impeachment is meaningless. The Democratic leadership in the House know it. The leadership also knows that a number of the centrist Dem Representatives won't vote for imeachment, since they come from moderate-to-conservative districts and want to be re-elected in'08.
