Lieberman was censured!
WINDSOR -- Windsor Democrats on Thursday followed their colleagues in Manchester by publicly chastising U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman for his support of President Bush and the Iraq war.

The Windsor Democratic Town Committee, in a 34-2 decision, approved a resolution calling for a vote of no confidence in Lieberman, D-Conn., for embracing Bush's position on the war, including denying that the United States wrongly entered the war and that it was not accomplishing the objectives set out by the president.

(snip)

"My goal is to seek a pattern - a groundswell - of Democratic town committee motions in Connecticut that will really get the senator's attention," Swade said Thursday.

23. Only one thing to say about this!
:applause:

Seriously, though...I sometimes think we're too quick to eat our own instead of focusing on targeting the RepubliCONS. But when one of own deserves it (as does Lieberman, IMO), then they get what they have coming! He can't keep speaking and voting CONlite then expect wholehearted support from Democrats.

I'm hoping Nebraska Democrats will follow Connecticut Democrats lead and do the same for Ben Nelson.

Put Lieberman 2004 primaries in google and you'll have thousands of links. Of course he ran and even criticized some opponents for their opposition to the war. He did poorly and dropped out early.

But the fact that he has learned to STFU about his support for the Coward re. Iraq says that the voices of his constituents had an impact. And that's good news, because frankly it's a huge uphill fight to unseat him and still have a Dem in that seat.

58. It's not his votes. It's his overall Republican partisanship.
It's the way he PUBLICLY blew off Al Gore's "the people against the powerful" during the 2000 campaign.

It's the way he PUBLICLY double-crossed Al Gore by going on Meet the Press during the Florida recount and agreeing to stuffing the ballot boxes with illegal votes from veterans.

That's enough right there to read him out of the party.

60. Um anybody who challenges LIEberman in the primaries
needs the support of local town committies.

That raises a practical question: Even if Lamont decides to run and does draw interest among registered Democrats, could he get the support of the local Democratic Party activists who will attend the primary convention? Fairfield University politics professor John Orman said that to get on the primary ballot so voters have a chance to pick him over Lieberman, Lamont would first need to receive the support of 15 percent of the town committee members who are convention delegates.

~~Snippy-Snip~~

Orman, who briefly ran against Lieberman last year until it was clear he had little support, said he's only heard of two or three Democratic Town Committee chairs who have spoken up against Lieberman, out of some 200 town committees. The strong institutional resistance to challengers helps explain why Lieberman is in his 18th year as senator and will probably serve another six years. "In Connecticut, if you're the type of person who has a career in politics and wants to move up the ladder, you'd be crazy to run against Joe Lieberman," Orman said. "That would be the end of your political career.

~~Snippy-Snip~~

"So it takes a party outsider or a maverick to pull off a huge political upset and get all the citizen action groups together and all the progressive groups and get people who are really upset with Joe," Orman said. A millionaire like Lamont might be able to do it, Orman added, as could a celebrity on par with Arnold Schwarzenegger. But genuinely viable insider candidates like Attorney General Richard Blumenthal or state Rep. Rosa DeLauro won't even try.

Full article here: http://westchesterweekly.com/gbase/News/content?oid=oid:141178

So it does matter.

Oh and welcome to DU. :toast:

Jumping out of his seat and looking over at the rest of his party remaining seated was priceless.
