"He's too green" or "He'll make a good VP"...
Does DU have a subconscious problem with race?

Why all the hate on Obama?

1. No hate here. He is my number 2 (after Gore). I'd love to see a former
Constitutional Law professor at the Article II helm.

And it would be a bonus to have an African-American President.

2. Not "hate". DUer's have their favorites.
It's not like any DUer's are claiming that Obama had multiple Vietnamese children out of wedlock.

3. So, unless you want him at the top of the ticket this time around, you're a racist?
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 01:30 AM by impeachdubya
Right. Just like everyone who doesn't want Hillary as the nominee is doing so out of misogyny.

Ridiculous. Obama's a good man, he's an excellent orator, he's got a bright future. We could do worse than have him as the nominee, but that said, he IS too green and he would make a better choice for the #2 slot.

I'd like to see Al Gore. Or Wes Clark. Those are my top two choices, Gore far and away. Obama is a few down the list, Hillary is WAY down.

I guess that means I "subconsciously" hate women and African Americans. :eyes:

20. Great point - and I like your top two choices as well.
I'm a woman and I don't much care for Hillary - mainly because I'm tired of the political dynasties. I'd like to see a woman as president, but it probably won't be her because of the years of demonization.

I also live in a red state and I have problems seeing how Hillary or Obama are going to win. My state, technically, is purple, and I think MIGHT have a chance to flip with the right candidate. Unfortunately, in today's political climate, I don't think a woman or a minority will flip it. It's sad, I know, but it's very true.

4. You're the one making it racial. Obama hasn't done squat nationally.
Obama was in the Dem *minority* (meaning no real pull) when he first got to the Senate.

Let's see how he governs *now*.

Other than being in the U.S. Senate for 1 month with a Democratic majority, he's got no credentials on a national scale to impress a Southern Brotha like me.

Al Gore's my choice (even though he's not declared) in '08. He's been in the White House and has even done the Senate thing.

26. The psycho-in-chief was Governor of Texas for 6 years and left it in a mess, Cheney has been in
politics longer than most, Rumsfeld has been in politics longer than I care to remember. ENOUGH SAID. The new meme on Obama.."He doesn't have enough experience doesn't wash. You need to think of a better excuse to not want him as a candidate. EXPERIENCE means DIDDLY SQUAT.

5. I haven't seen any HATE of Obama on DU. And I sure don't have any!
I still want to see how he responds on the campaign trail. He did VERY WELL in his election in his home State, but Presidential Politics is much more grueling, and he, as is every other candidate, going to have to deal with arrows from every side and angle. I want to see how each one reacts under fire, because there's sure going to be ongoing fire on anyone who gets in the White House!

8. Well, is he green with purple polka dots?
It could make for a bad impression for those who are hung-over before the SOTU or other major speeches...just sayin'!

Otherwise, whoever gives a sh*t about his skin color isn't with us.

That said...I have my concerns that he's peaking way too early...I really, really like Obama, but...

Hopefully, he'll come out of this with a VP nod or in the cabinet...which will set him for POTUS easily in 2016.

Be patient...

13. Unfortunately, candidates need to start much earlier these days.
The best staff people are already lining themselves up with announced candidates, and the primary season is stacked now near the beginning.

9. I'm not racist. Its WAY too early to pick a leader....
I like Obama, alot.

I like Wes Clark, quite a bit.

I've been thru this before, all the way to state party caucus...

I could support, in NO particular order:

Sharpton, Kucinich, Edwards, Biden, or Hillary.

This is a PROCESS, not a horserace. There is no SINGLE winner.

I WANT to hear ALL the voices.

Peace.

21. We have an "experienced executive" in the WH now.
We have the MBA president...the darling of the business world. Runnin' the nation and the world like a corporation. Sorry, I want a president who has a heart and soul and who is still close enough to the people to remember where he/she came from. Obama is capable of being great in that way.

19. I LOVE Obama. When I saw him speak at the Dem convention
I had chills up and down my spine and I knew that
he would be president one day.

But today our nation faces the greatest crisis of our times. We need the most seasoned person we can get.

His time will come. Be patient.

22. I'll assume you're not an actual Obama supporter.
Statements like this do nothing to promote him as a candidate.

To the contrary, if you pursue this ridiculous "you're a racist if you don't support Obama", you will drive people away.

Every candidate has their strengths and weakness. It is foolish to to treat certain candidates with kid gloves just because of their race.

Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 09:16 AM by Balbus
he's black, just like there are a few DUers who don't like Hillary because she's an ambitious woman. But for the most part, DUers don't like Obama because his middle name is Hussein and they don't like Hillary because her husband got a blowjob from an intern in the presidential office.

So I think you're really out of line with your post...
