CHENEY Rejected Iranian Offer To Help Stabilize Region In 2003
Last Updated: Thursday, 18 January 2007, 10:55 GMT
Washington 'snubbed Iran offer'

Iran offered the US a package of concessions in 2003, but it was rejected, a senior former US official has told the BBC's Newsnight programme.

Tehran proposed ending support for Lebanese and Palestinian militant groups and helping to stabilise Iraq following the US-led invasion.

Offers, including making its nuclear programme more transparent, were conditional on the US ending hostility.

But Vice-President Dick Cheney's office rejected the plan, the official said.

The offers came in a letter, seen by Newsnight, which was unsigned but which the US state department apparently believed to have been approved by the highest authorities.

3. Can't Steal The Oil If You Don't Have Chaos......
this wasn't in the plan he laid out in his secret meetings with the oil industry and the Ken Lay's of the world - that he still keeps as secret.

4. Wanna Bet Cheney Wanted A Piece Of Their Oil Money, Too
Teheran stands in Crashcart's way of dominating all the oil outside of the Arabian peninsula. After all but corupting all the former Soviet republics with oil, the only areas outside his control were the state-controlled oil states of Iraq and Iran.

Be assured, Cheney is pushing this for oil as much as anything else. The Iran-Iraq war kept both countries from pumping oil and allowed the Saudis and American multinationals to prosper in the 80's. With Iraq's oil industry either under his thumb or shut down, Crashcart sees the oil fields of southern Iran as one more piece in his puzzle...and he thinks its within his reach.

Remember, 2003 was before Armejenejad and a more moderate government...so surely any Iranian deal was yanked from the table the moment he was elected.
