Well, I finally found out why Boehner wanted to adjourn this morning!
Someone on
DU asked about this earlier, and never received an answer as far as I know. First thing this AM Boehner made a motion to adjourn the House for the day! I tuned into cspan, but they never gae a reason why, just did a lot of whining about the new majority! Well, here's why...

As he prepares for his State of the Union address next week, President Bush has no public events today or tomorrow. Consequently, the center of the GOP universe shifts a few blocks -- from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to the downtown Grand Hyatt in DC, where Republicans are gathering for the RNC's winter meeting to discuss their lessons learned from the 2006 midterms. There are two big events today: House Minority Leader John Boehner's speech at lunch and outgoing RNC chairman Ken Mehlman's farewell address later in the afternoon. Tomorrow, the party elects its new chair, Florida Sen. Mel Martinez.

TSPubs! You shouldn't have scheduled this gathering for tonight...AFTER WORK!

1. He probably assumed that he could cancel work
simply by saying he had a scheduling conflict.

2. The center of the GOP universe should be shifted to the Hague
Then I'd approve of their absence on a workday.

3. GOP Party obligations come before State obligations
Boner keeps forgetting that should be the other way around.

Good catch napi21.

4. There was a report that the repugs were mutinying against
Chucklenuts' announcement that Martinez was taking over the reins of the RNC right after the November elections. They apparently do not trust Chimpy's judgment in matters of political guidance anymore (man, are these people slo-o-o-o-o-ow) and they were putting up an alternative candidate (I forget who). This would be a major slap in the face of Chucklenuts if they don't accept his decree that Mel is Chimpy's man and Mel should lead the GOP.

On one hand, I'd love to see Martinez lead this bunch of incompetent boobs as he is a major incompetent boob. On the other hand, it would be just too precious if the repugs finally stood up to Chimpy.

5. A theory was also put out there that Martinez was Chimpy's man
so he could resign and Jeb would be appointed in his place. Don't know if I put much credence in the idea but it would make sense since the BFEE needs to keep the Bush boys employed by any devious means possible.

9. napi did a GREAT catch and deserves K&Rs to get this more notice
You can bet GOP will use any time Congress slacks a day as a club against DEMs, even if it was a GOP goof ball that insisted in a day off! Gotta keep all the reasons from falling down the memory hole before next campaign season.

12. NOPE! The took a vote and the Pubs LOST!
They whined, kicked & screamed about unfairness, but the gavel slammed for quiet, and one of the Dems said, Mr speaker, I take it we're ready to resume? The answer from the chair was YES WE ARE!

10. Their arrogant assholiness can't be covered up

Anyone catch the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing with Madeline Albright yesterday? Ros-Latham acts she's still in charge telling one of our Dems "you're time's up Congressman". Rohrbacher attacked Albright and the Clinton administration in everyway possible pretty much blaming bin Laden, 9/11, Saddam Hussein, Iran, and the problems we now have in Iraq on them! A couple of Con Reps yielded their questioning time back to Ros-Latham so she could fire a few more rhetorical shots. It was disgusting.

And Boehner "leads" this bunch!

13. Yet on Dobb's yesterday Rohrbacher said that
any time he contacted the Clinton WH he got a response immediately (sometimes straight from Clinton) and when he contacts the * WH he gets NOTHING. No response whatsoever.

I'm telling you...these people are NUTS.

because of his support for the Bush guest worker program?
