It's incredibly windy here in Germany

has been all day, blowing dozens of shingles off buildings. It's stronger now than ever, some rain falling. Sounds like a police loudspeaker across the street...lots of trees around here, maybe one of them is down. 45 mph winds now, reminds me of the hurricanes in Asia. Condi had to cut short her trip to Berlin. Pity.

5. I won't have to go to work tomorrow if this keeps up

shingles were flying off the base roofs and against the windows below all day today. It'll be a mess by morning, and probably unsafe.

13. We haven't before either

but everyone was asked to leave the base early today, and the condition hasn't improved. This isn't typical weather, so folks aren't used to it.

It must be difficult keeping sand out of your house, eyes, ears and nose during a desert wind storm.

21. Kids were sent home from school

businesses closed early, I got home just as the winds were picking up and have stayed put. It got interesting for a half hour after dark, opened a window out of curiosity and had fun trying to close it again. But all things considered this storm was much milder than the hurricane we had a few years back where huge branches and assorted shit were flying by my window.

9. Everyone went home early today because of how bad it was getting

and then we were advised to stay inside and secure vehicles against trees falling (if we could)

Semi-trucks are parked along the road because they are grounded for the night.

My husband was supposed to take a train from Hamburg to Hanover tonight, but the train was only going as far as Cologne(sp) due to the weather.

18. My daughter just moved to the UK....

near London and when I talked to her today she told me how terrible the winds are. She also said the same thing last week so it seems to be going on for a long time. She can't believe it, even after living in a city as windy as Buffalo, NY.

22. yes, we've had a strange few weeks...lots of rain and wind

mixed with warm temps and sun. It's like living at the beach, wait a few minutes and it'll change. :) My husband and I grew up in upstate NY(Albany area) and have lived in many places...but this has to be the oddest winter we've been through. If you ever come over for a visit we should meet for a coffee or a pint if you are so inclined. :D
