3. Yes, there sure was a lot of damage and many people killed, injured,

power outages, etc. I realized after I posted that I should have mentioned something about that (I should have come back and edited my post). I didn't mean to come off sounding insensitive about such a horrific storm by only posting about those pictures.

5. You forgot Poland -- seems like they are got hit hard

Poland battered by deadly storm

Poland and the Czech Republic are now taking the full force of a storm that has swept northern Europe leaving at least 33 people dead.

At least four people were reported killed in Poland as winds of more than 200km/h (124mph) were recorded.

Meanwhile Germany, Britain, Belgium and the Netherlands picked themselves up on Friday after the storm passed.

Some services were returning to normal, but thousands of travellers were still stranded and homes left without power.

Roads, rail lines and electricity pylons were taken out of action by falling trees, collapsing walls and flying wreckage.

6. While some of these deaths

were clearly unavoidable, it seems to me that many Europeans either did not hear/watch the weather forecast or ignored it. No one in my part of the Caribbean would have been on the roads or walking anywhere.

7. The day after...

Sunlight streaming through my windows woke me up. I threw them open a let in a blast of warm air. Craving a fresh Brötchen, I pulled on a turtleneck, put a cotton shirt over it only to realize once hitting the street that I didn't need the shirt. There was no damage in the immediate environs, just twigs scattered here and there. The air is incredibly clear. What a gorgeous day...

8. Can't seem to find any satellite or radar images.

I wish I could find out more about the origins of these storms and what the system looked like, also the history of similar storms in Europe. So far I've found nothing of the sort by googling or on wunderground.com .
