OH. MY. GOD. "I'm doing you, Bill."
I didn't think Stephen would do it. I thought it was just going to be an ass-kissing, and I even thought that was the best way to go. But, Colbert's appearance on O'Reilly's show was one of the most BRUTAL ASS-KICKINGS I've ever seen....seen Stephen Colbert hand out, I suppose. It was almost up there with the WH Correspondent's dinner, if it didn't meet it. Colbert nailed O'Reilly so many times, it was unbelievable. He even had O'Reilly's staff laughing.

Score one Colbert. NICE job, Stephen.

2. It was fast-paced and very tense. But Colbert was awesome.
About a hundred double-entendres, just kicked the shit out of him.

O'Reilly didn't lose it or anything, but he couldn't keep up. Everything he said, Stephen had a snappy answer for.

...I think we just saw television history being made. Stephen handled himself brilliantly and deftly, and I'm just in awe of his performance tonight. It was exquisite.

Was it funny? Ironic? Ironically funny? Just Performance Art?

I realized three things from that:

1. Colbert really really needs an audience. Otherwise, his deadpan just sort of lingers there.
2. O'Reilly is one of those guys who thinks he is hysterical but is really really unfunny.
3. Colbert needs a straight man at all times, and O'Relly was simply unwilling to do it. I don't think the character works as a guest. He has to be in charge. (A character like Borat simply cannot be in charge of anything in comparison.

Anyway, I think that would have been better if Colbert had broken character and just done a straight interview.
