Does anybody remember Ngo Dinh Diem?
Does anybody think that Nouri al-Malaki will end up the same way?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ngo_Dinh_Diem

I'm just curious to know if I am the only one to suspect this.

4. Yep, and I remember JFK and know my realpolitik history reasonably well.
We've had a few coups to pave the way here to BFEE's HOMELAND(tm).

Speaking about Iraq and realpolitik and the BFEE have you seen this work from
The Center for Media & Democracy's project SourceWatch?

5. Thanks for the tip
That's pretty heavy reading, so I will take my time with it. but this quote at the top really sparked my interest.

"The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the State." --Dr. Joseph M. Goebbels.

7. That deserves its own thread, Mr. Drummer, Sir.
From your link, the end result of our War Party:

In the new phase any potential for US benevolence in granting concessions to other members of the G-7 is removed and coercion must replace benevolence in the long-held carrot-and-stick formula for maintaining American dominance; thus the US is converted from a Neo-liberal society leaning toward democracy to a Neo-conservative military republic, but not necessarily a constitutional one. The best expression of this argument comes from Neo-conservative think tanks and publishings of the AEI, Scaife Foundation, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, William Kristol, Richard Cheney and others. While some may decry the foregoing as politically motivated rhethoric, the ultimate intention is to stress the political, ideological and rhetorical nature of the road to war in Iraq.

We the People be cannon fodder.

10. Those articles really bring out the similarities
I wonder if Malaki realizes that the CIA will take him out in a heart beat if he fails to be a good puppet? I wonder if the * administration realizes that they will not be able to control the outcome if they do take out Malaki?

The echos of Viet Nam grow louder every day.

11. I dunno. Bush seems to be able to hire and fire elected leaders there
without murdering them and no one seems to notice they have been replaced, even with the purple finger hoopla.

15. I have wondered about that
Then again, I thought Chalabi would end up like that, too.

Nevertheless, being an ineffective US puppet may be hazardous to your health.
