4. I'm watching it now.
Man, Gonzales is an insipid slime. He's got a Smithers vibe to him, with bush being Mr. Burns, of course.

5. even Spector gave him a dressing down. I watched the last half
of this hearing on cspan 3 this afternoon, but didn't have the chance to see the beginning. Glad to have the chance.

I must say though, Gonzo appears not to be affected at all by anything anyone has said so far!

7. Wasn't Alberto Gonzales an attorney for Enron?
Gonzales supposedly spent 13 years as a lawyer and partner with the Houston lawfirm of Vinson & Elkins that was Enron's main counsel. Supposedly, Gonzales worked in the business and energy section of the firm and had direct contact with Kenneth Lay for quite a few years and even received Enron campaign contributions when he later ran for re-election as a judge. Gonzales supposedly even worked with Kenneth Lay on the 1992 Republican National Convention.

Supposedly, he left the lawfirm in about 1995 and therefore was not there when the 8*#@% really hit the fan over Enron. But who knows if he had any inside knowledge of the scamming going on at Enron, as he was supposedly another personal friend of Ken Lay. That Bush appointed him with his background while the Justice Department had investigations going on over Enron is incredible. And when he became Attorney General, he refused to recuse himself even with open investigations into Lay and Skilling. To me, this is not an ethical man or someone who respects the spirit of the law. Whatever you might think of Ashcroft, at least he had the ethics to recuse himself from the investigation of Enron while he was the A.G., due to campaign contributions he had received.
