Barack Obama's High School Pictures Surface...He was called WHAT?

With more than a little snark, Wonkette gets to the bottom of the story:

Barack Obama’s past will certainly be an issue in his Presidential campaign. There are already rumors floating around the internet’s series of sewers that he was secretly raised Muslim, that he was damningly angry and radical, and that his middle name is “Hussein.” But most damning of all might be this yearbook photo, in which we learn Obama’s high school nickname. There will never, ever be a President named “Barry.”

The Americanization of a foreign name....it happens all of the time. Only in the last 15-20 years have I noticed that people were more accepting of a foreign name.

The argument I always heard was "I can't spell it, I can't pronounce it, I'll just call you ____."

I grew up in an Italian family, and about 50% of the adult Italian males we knew were called "Joe" because no one wanted to try and pronounce "Amerigo" or "Isidro" and similar names. All the Pasquales became "Pat" in a similar move.

I thought that Asshole was his real birth-name!

This morning for the second time in about three days on C-Span WJ someone called in and said Obama was muslim for the first half of his life and wondered why he converted.

I sent an email to WJ correcting this but I am afraid that there may be a whisper campaign going around with this mis-information. Keep an eye out for it.

(To clarify, it would not make a difference to me but it sure will scare the racists and fundies that he is some sort of islamic mole working undercover.)

The retractions never get out far enough to clean the slate so you have people voting for an *ss because the gossip hasn't mentioned his awol status. Most voters do not educate themselves they just vote on what they have heard. Thomas Jefferson would be rolling over in his grave. He wanted informed voters.
