1. Was that the one that Cons objected to because they couldn't
buy mailing lists? I heard one of them railing that a neighborhood grassroots movement trying to grow..."The MOMENT they pay money, $300 or whatever it would be, to send a mailing, the VERY MOMENT they hand over the cash, they are breaking the law!!! The sky will fall, the world will end, and all hell will break loose in that very moment!"

3. All the "Nay" votes were by Democrats ...

which tells me that it was the RWers who didn't like this bill. We probably would have been better off if it stayed in. :-(

4. Minus five blue dogs and a DINO (Nelson), yep.
Strangely, Lieberman voted 'Nay' ... so it must not have impeded our ability to kill Muslims.

5. From my reading of the amendment, it applied only to reporting grassroots payments.
It's a moot point now, but my take was that the amendment didn't make payments to grassroots efforts illegal, just subject to reporting. I guess my thoughts were that someone legitimately using a grassroots organization wouldn't mind reporting it, while someone trying to astroturf an issue would be reluctant to report it.

I haven't been following any media on this, just saw a thread that seemed to misinterpret the amendment and went to read the bill myself.
