I don't block replies.
Anyone can post on my threads.

I've added that to my sig.

Carry on, good people!

3. I don't ignore anyone.
But I wish someone who has me ignored (I hope noone does) would have the decency to block me from repling so I don't waste my time replying to a thread when they can't see what I am saying.

6. It's best to ignore some people.
Making fun of them is rude.

5. I think everyone has the right to express their feelings and make a point.
But it eventually gets to the part where someone has to just say, "It's not worth it." I have two people on ignore, but that was only because they got nasty and started to attack and insult me personally rather than carry on a respectful conversation.

At that point, I no longer care what they have to say, and they've lost all hope of making their point with me.

I think we can all learn something from another's perspective, but you have to consider what they are saying. People close that door when they get rude, nasty, or insulting.

I don't always agree with everyone at DU, but I do try to keep an open mind and respect their right to have a differning opinion. I can't see myself using the block replies option, I would likely just stop reading their posts and go on to something else.

11. Yes, I can see where a few can be overzealous in their posts.
I've often wondered if they were intentionally trying to disrupt things. I usually look at the number of posts from that person, but even if they've been here awhile, I sometimes really wonder where they're coming from, and what their real intentions are.

I also see posts from time to time from different usernames that I think could actually be the same person, usually due to their writing style, punctuation, etc.

Wasn't there a case of a GOP staffer disrupting things here not too long ago?

8. Blocking sure
I have one person on ignore for that reason

No, we are talking about blocking the abily to respond... and it usually happens when people do not or cannot deal with the fact that somebody may NOT share their opinion

By the way blocking the abilty to answer lasts for a week, while ignore, I could go back and remove the person in question

9. There are some valid reasons for using these functions...
... mostly as a kind of "time out" when things get too hot between individuals. It's better than throwing crockery.

I saw a potential thread hijacking/flame war stopped in its tracks by the OP poster blocking the individuals involved.

16. I've had that sig for a long time.
Maybe I'd have added more lines, but DU allows only three now.

In the good old/bad old days of DU some people had sigs that took up entire screens.

15. I barely use ignore
and it's usually just before the ignoree becomes the dear departed.

I can't imagine using anything to prevent an ignoree from expressing a counter opinion, venting, or being abusive enough that the mods step in.

After all, people around here are known by their words.

I don't block replies, I don't put people on ignore, and I only alert if somebody is clearly disrupting...maybe three times in the year and a half I've been here. I sit here and watch the fights, bemused. :)
