Poll question: Who is calling the shots in our Middle East policy: Saudi Arabia or Big Oil?
I heard Greg Palast on a Pacifica show recently say Saudi summoned Cheney to tell him the US can't pull out because it would give control of Iraq's oil to Saudi's OPEC rival, Iran.

Palast is a real groundbreaker on a lot of topics, but like the debate about Israel a while back, I wonder whether Saudi is really the tail or the dog.

1. I would think they'd have the same goals at the moment.

4. Right.
I voted for the last answer--just because--but the real answer is a combination of 1&2.

14. The Saudis own a large interest in the US-based oil multinationals along with
the biggest banks, such as Citicorp.

Hard to tell them apart, really.

There are factions within global capital, of course, and they do have quarrels with each other. World Wars One and Two, for instance. :nuke: :nuke:

10. Actually that's a common custom of the gulf countries
They also hold hands. That doesn't prove anything. Not to deny that he's in bed with the Saudis, but your point is rather culturally insensitive.

15. I think that picture speaks for itself.
If that makes me culturally insensitive, so be it.

For some reason, though, I don't think a picture of, say, Bill Clinton kissing Nelson Mandela on the cheek would carry the same ominous implications.
