Pelosi & Reid Say No To Bush & His Sweetheart Lieberman
Pelosi and Reid to President: Congressional Structures Already in Place to Fight Terrorism

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid sent a letter to President Bush today on his intention to establish a bipartisan working group on the war against terrorism. In the letter, the leaders said there are congressional structures already in place to develop policies in a bipartisan manner to fight terrorism.

Below is the text of the letter:

January 19, 2007

The President

The White House

Washington, DC 20500

Dear Mr. President:

In your speech to the nation on Iraq on January 10, you announced your intention to establish a bipartisan working group on the war against terrorism. You indicated that the working group would provide a way to work in a bipartisan fashion on the terrorism issue and in so doing strengthen the relationship between your administration and Congress.

We welcome your expression of a willingness to work more cooperatively with Congress. A relationship that acknowledges the different responsibilities reserved in the Constitution for the executive and legislative branches of our government would facilitate greatly doing the work the American people elected us to do. We believe that Congress already has bipartisan structures in place, like the committee system and other Congressional working groups such as the Senate’s National Security Working Group, that could produce the result you described in your speech.

We look forward to working with you within these existing structures, in a bipartisan and fully consultative way, to make progress on efforts against terrorism and other important matters.

Sincerely,

Harry Reid Nancy Pelosi

Majority Leader Speaker of the House

1. I'm glad the structures are in place to create a working
environment for this new congress. Let's move quickly now and bring those troops home.

3. The GOP will accuse
everyone who doesn't agree with them of being partisan. Bush's offer is just part of the PR job. I expect the media to go along with the Republicans.
