President Bush makes a few remarks after visiting wounded soldiers at Brooke Army Medical Center, Sunday Jan. 1, 2006, in San Antonio, Texas. He has a cut on the left side of his forehead from cutting down brush on his ranch and joked to the soldiers that he, too, was injured.

4. Let me see if I've got this straight
He's visiting soldiers who've been wounded in combat, and he's bitching and complaining about a cut he got on his forehead, and saying he's injured?

I am not a soldier, but if I was, I would have found that truly insulting.

Look at the expressions on the faces of the two women. Boredom, at best and, more likely, sheer disgust.

11. It's just so insulting and disgusting, especially when you consider that
He once bragged to his professor at Harvard Business School about using his Daddy's name to get out of the Vietnam War.

He was so gung-ho, ra-ra for the Vietnam War, and yet he was not willing to go.

The people he visited with today did go into combat for their country (unlike him) and he's complaining about an injury he got on his ranch?

I almost feel the need to puke right about now.

It's gotta be about HIM!!! No matter where he is or what he's doing, Junior must have the attention focused on himself!

He's a fucking pathological narcissist, folks! He's incapable of merely being an audience or observer.

Let's review ...
A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:
  1. has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
  2. is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
  3. believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
  4. requires excessive admiration
  5. has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
  6. is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
  7. lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
  8. is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her
  9. shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

It's not curable! He's fucking bonkers! He's dangerous!
Hell ... how often must he demonstrate the same pathology for folks to get it??

Let's just tally the symptoms inherent in his behavior at Brooks ...
1. self-importance - his small scratch merits attention, even among amputees and massive burn victims.
2. "special" - the usual courtesies and compassion don't apply to him
4. admiration - even though clearing brush is something done by minimum wage workers, he requires and expects admiration for doing so
6. exploitative - he USES severely disabled and injured men as an audience, a photo-op, and a forum for spouting propaganda
7. lacks empathy - jeeezuz! could it be clearer or more extreme??

This is what makes him manipulable ... it's why he's a sock-puppet for Baker/Cheney/Rumsfeld/PNAC.

64. Maybe the reason many of us "don't get it" is that we're normal and sane.
It's so hard for someone who isn't a narcissist to imagine making wisecracks about a little scratch in front of a bunch of amputees and burn victims. Obviously, the guy ain't right. It's just so hard to relate to somebody who would say things like that, that we are reduced to outraged, uncomprehending spluttering.

The answer would seem to be in DSM IV. But how do people get to be like that? Yes, he's a spoiled rich kid, but there are a lot of spoiled rich kids who grew up to be decent human beings. Why is he such a dick?

67. For Junior, it was wishing his sister dead and getting his wish.
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 01:12 PM by TahitiNut
He was born into a dysfunctional family. The somewhat typical "only child" reaction to a sibling being born ... when the family is already dysfunctional (domineering mother and absent father) ... is to wish her dead. Somewhat typical for a 4-year-old. He got his wish after a couple of years. The 'family' never discussed it or dealt with the impact - particularly Junior's adjustments. Imagine a child believing the power of such a wish. From that point on, the trauma became deeply-embedded and showed itself in the malicious ways L'il George "played" with his siblings. He became increasingly obsessed with being an attention-getter, competing (with his father, primarily) for the spotlight and acting out in ways that drew attention, no matter how unfavorable. Years and years ... and the narcissism only got worse. Narcissism is an ordinary part of juvenile emotional development. Atrophied emotional development leads to disorders in adulthood. Narcissism is effectively untreatable.

Daddy played baseball at Yale. L'il George was a cheerleader because it was easier to get cheers. Narcissism. Big man on campus - with daddy's money. Disapproving, domineering Babs, almost incapable of showing genuine affection, was NEVER a model of "unconditional love" - it's ALWAYS conditional.

73. Primarily because too much is attributed to him personally.
He's a useless, bullying fuck. End of story.

All the rest (policies and directions) is attributable to Cheney/Rumsfeld - backed by a cabal of insiders like Rove, Card, Libby, and the rest - doing the bidding of a global corporatist consortium topped off by the petrochemical and international banking (including investment bankers) sectors. The fundies don't call the shots - they're used as stormtroopers to keep the domestic policies moving toward more and more socially authoritarianism.

Insofar as Junior's behavior, including face plants - he's on meds. The meds, along with 'occupational therapy,' keep him barely this side of melting down. He has very little to do with directing the main themes of this regime, imho.

A core corps of longtime DUers seem to all be on the same page with this, but the majority of DUers seem to unthinkingly target the sock puppet. Bashing Mortimer Snerd would have left Edgar Bergan unbruised. Bashing Mortimer Smirk leaves Cheney/Rumsfeld unbruised. Junior's expendable - he's an ablative.

And no social skills, either. He's a toilet-trained monkey (apologies to all monkeys) who was raised with no sense of social skills, manners, or humility.

Those who are born to money and privilege often are like that. Never forget he is of a blue-blooded, monied, aristocratic family and not born on the dusty plains of Texas as he would like people to believe.

Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 11:55 PM by beam me up scottie

Sergeant Shawn Monroe was injured last October when mortar fire hit while he was waiting outside a Baghdad police station.

Specialist José Martinez was burned in a fireball of an explosion from a land mine. He was conscious and knew he was being burned alive. He faces two more years of surgery.

Specialist Aaron Coates was driving a fuel truck in a convoy when he was ambushed. He was sitting on 1000 gallons of fuel when it blew up.

A helicopter crash in Afghanistan last November made headlines in America. One of those survivors was Staff Sergeant Jonathan Purser who returned from surgery just hours before this interview.

These men were at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas.

Well, the article isn't saying, but the DOD press release offers a hint:

"At the hospital, Bush met with patients and their families at the Amputee Care Center that opened in January 2005, Phil Reidinger, the post's public affairs officer, told American Forces Press Service.

"From there, he visited the Burn Center, which has treated 388 servicemembers wounded in the war on terror, and intensive care unit. The president presented Purple Heart Medals to nine soldiers: Sgt. 1st Class Larry Campbell, Staff Sgts. Christopher Edwards and Ellis Majetich, Sgt. Lee Tom Jones, Cpl. Andrew Powers, and Spcs. Chad Danusis, David Dyer, Robert Leonard and Jean Pijeau, Reidinger said."

their faces that read, "How in hell did this dumbshit ever worm his way into the WH?"

Only the most self-absorbed jerk would even think to draw attention to a minor scratch when visiting a burn ward. Just when you think he couldn't be any more of an idiot, he sinks to new lows. And 40% of the American people who consistently "support" him despite everything, are no better. He should have been impeached and tossed out on his sorry ass long ago.

46. I thought you guys were making much about nothing, since I've
spent a fair amount of time "bushwhacking".

But if this picture is for real, the real injury is on his nose
and his cheek. Maybe the scratch is a decoy. Look how the injury
on his check lines up with the one on his nose, and the cheek is
swollen. They look like impact injuries, not scratches. Like he
fell into an open door or something.

47. You're right it could be a "decoy", it looks like nothing
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 02:42 AM by arikara
and I'm sure that his makeup person could have covered up that little scratch on his forehead. On the other hand, his injury on the bridge of his nose has been very carefully concealed. It sort of looks like he was wearing goggles or glasses and fell on his face. The edge of the glasses could have marked up his cheek like that.

on edit: added pic

Look at this one if you can stand to... he has a deformed upper lip and red chin too.

49. His scratch would've gone right by me if not for his own related drama
I mean, really, telling our wounded soldiers about his "combat" with a cedar?! If he hadn't opened his incessantly-flapping mouth, I never even would've noticed it. I try to avoid looking at trash as often as possible.

I think you're right, though. His nose is definitely injured. Maybe he took a branch across the face and it slammed his sunglasses into his skin. He hasn't the brains to wear safety goggles.

60. I agree. The cut (and his awful joke about it) is a distraction.
This is quite obvious since the joke was truly highly inappropriate, and it indicates that he was TRYING to get that fraudulent information out there.

Have you ever known a bad alcoholic? They get injuries on their faces ALL THE TIME. They lose their instinctive protective reflexes when they're drunk, and when they fall down it's Face-Plant City.

Seriously, I've been involved in karate and other "extreme" sports for years, and I've never seen anyone beat up their faces like on a regular basis like he does. I've also known my share of bad alcoholics, and they ALL beat their faces up like this on a regular basis.

65. What a fucking pile of shit
What kind of asshole even mentions his small SCRATCH on his head to people that have lost limbs, pints of blood, eyes, nearly their lives, and probably lost friends? A SCRATCH he received while he was attempting to look manly to his idiotic followers by clearing brush on a fake ranch. My dad says he should have the entire state of TX cleared of brush by now since he is always there.

What a pile of shit.

in the first photo looks neither impressed with his "injury" or amused at his "joke" about it. Good for her. She may not get any brownie points with the West pointers back in the TOC but I'll bet she gets more sleep tonight than the soldier-killing-scumbag in-cheif.
