See if you can locate Crawford Ranch on this aviation chart:
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 03:52 AM by JohnnyRingo

The white area is resticted airspace from ground level to outer space
The small circle in the center is a column of prohibited airspace extending forever

1. Looks like a target
I hope that's not what it's used for...

2. As it should be.

I can respect it as a home of a US pResident even though he can't respect the Constitution.

3. Exactly.
He becomes a target by representing the whole of our nation. It is our obligation to protect him.

4. Even if never duly elected, he deserves protection
He doesn't represent us but he does occupy the position.
Never will I believe he is representative of our country.

14. He's the most 'protected' human being in the history of the world.
There has never been another person with the array of security forces (military, police, and private) surrounding him. No other President in US history has had anything comparable to the number of military, police, FBI, federal marshalls, and secret service surrounding him at an inauguration -- not even close. No other head of state has had several square blocks of European capital cities cleared around him when they visited. Never.

11. It's about:
31deg 30' N
97deg 30' W

I think

If it's like Cheney's new digs, Google Earth blurs out a similar circle. (I think you can search it there)

I don't recall seeing this during the last administration. I think they got nervous after 9/11 because it involved planes, though prohibited space only keeps honest pilots out.

I suspect it may be cause they don't want to hear planes overhead, because the ban is in effect 24/7/365. Even when he's not there.

It'll be interesting to see if they lift it in '09

22. LOL, It's there! In all it's Hi-Res glory
Someone (actually several people) has even marked it with one of those blue "i's" too.

All you have to do is type in Crawford, Texas into the search box, then move a little West, just outside the Low-Res at 31 deg 34'56.37"N 97 deg 32' 40.80" W

8. it looks like one of those blast diagrams...
...that show in a nuclear blast which areas
are totally annihilated, where some buildings might
remain standing, but all humans die instantly, to
areas miles away from ground zero where people only
have their skin cooked off and die 24 hours later.

Ironic the home of the football would remind one of a blast diagram.

12. Just for that
I'm going to fire up my Microsoft Flight Simulator and buzz that space repeatedly. Take that, virtual FAA!

Come to think of it, my version is from 2002 so they might have actual ranch buildings there in the program rather than non-descript scenery.

20. Did you have the 1998 or 2000 version of MS Flight Simulator?
If you still have it or can load it, check out some of the "Adventure" flights.
The one for NYC has you fly between WTC #1 and WTC #2!:wow:

I kid you not.

29. I have it and I have done it
Before 9/11, natch. NYC and SF were two of the more complete renderings of cities, and I'm familiar with both cities, so I've taken several leisurely jaunts around them in the Sopwith Camel.

Houston didn't get a downtown until the 2002 edition, and my computer isn't advanced enough to run 2004.

13. These security people are laughable. All this skullduggery
and most people can decipher their crap through publicly available materials. It's a scam and a shell game. And a costly one at that.

15. "...the center a column of prohibited airspace extending forever."
Wow. "Into infinity and beyond"?! What happens if a NASA space craft near Saturn crosses the imaginary column? Does it get shot down with our 'Super Magic Space Annihilation Vapor Guns'?

There were some pretty clear arial photos of the pig farm posted here during Cindy's protest. They were quite clear, and showed the buildings, including the new house the bushies built, the original house and barns, vegetation and ponds.

18. Well, that would explain the Mars Odyssey
Isn't that the one that mysteriously disappeared in the late 90s? UFO nuts (include myself there, btw) thought maybe it was some alien intervention. Now we know the real story.

21. Extending Forever?
How, exactly, do you enforce that, and why? Are they afraid that some satellite with an anime-esque orbital laser is going to hover above the ranch and burn ol' GW out of existence. I hate to tell them this, but that can be done without a direct down facing view, probably from outside even the "to outer space" circle.

Forever? Man that's rich.

27. At Least Its in the Middle of Nowhere
Pilots can be glad that Bush's ranch is in the middle of nowhere. If you tried to exclude flights from that big an area near a metro area, it would be very tough.
