Cat Calls 911 to Help Owner, Police Say
Police aren't sure how else to explain it. But when an officer walked into an apartment Thursday night to answer a 911 call, an orange-and-tan striped cat was lying by a telephone on the living room floor. The cat's owner, Gary Rosheisen, was on the ground near his bed having fallen out of his wheelchair.

Rosheisen said his cat, Tommy, must have hit the right buttons to call 911.

``I know it sounds kind of weird,'' Officer Patrick Daugherty said, unsuccessfully searching for some other explanation.

Rosheisen said he couldn't get up because of pain from osteoporosis and ministrokes that disrupt his balance. He also wasn't wearing his medical-alert necklace and couldn't reach a cord above his pillow that alerts paramedics that he needs help.

Daugherty said police received a 911 call from Rosheisen's apartment, but there was no one on the phone. Police called back to make sure everything was OK, and when no one answered, they decided to check things out.

1. not the first time stuff like that has happened.
our friends watch us all the time -- and they do pick up a thing or two along the way.

if we would just stop trying to compare their intelligence to ours -- we might learn a thing or two.

good for the kitty!

i've known cat's who i SWEAR would know how to do the 9-11 thing but wouldn't out of perversity.

it's the one thing that separates cats and dogs i think.

4. another story I saw on the tube
a few months ago on the Animal Planet

while a couple were sleeping, an intruder entered their house. As the intruder crept around the corner into the living room, he was attacked by the couple's cat (Cat was on one of those cat-tree perch).

The cat severly bit/scratched the intruder and drove him away. Police contacted hospitals to alert them that the intruder may be seeking medical aid and took DNA samples from the blood under the cat's nails. Within a couple of hours the police arrived at the hospital and were able to match DNA samples to a suspect.

here's what is pretty amazing -- the cat was blind from birth
