Exclusive: Can the President Order a Killing on U.S. Soil?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11180519/site/newsweek

Feb. 13, 2006 issue - In the latest twist in the debate over presidential powers, a Justice Department official suggested that in certain circumstances, the president might have the power to order the killing of terrorist suspects inside the United States. Steven Bradbury, acting head of the department's Office of Legal Counsel, went to a closed-door Senate intelligence committee meeting last week to defend President George W. Bush's surveillance program.

3. If you twist up unlikely hypotheticals you can prejudice rhetoric
that people will agree with.

The essential thing not to lose track of is that you are talking about unlikely hypotheticals.

"If you know a guy is going to nuke Chicago is it ok to kill him?" Well, to save 8-10 million people what the hell do you think people will say?

But, this is a very unlikely scenario. Terrorists don't have nuclear weapons. And even if they did, the likelihood that we might knowing who "he" is and that "he" is going to use one on Chicago is very very, vanishing low.

5. What's stopping him?
If he did decide to do it, who could stop him? He already broken the law, said he's do it again and practically DARED his critics to stop him.

If the president can ignore very specific laws like FISA, the Anti-Torture law, the Geneva Convention, etc., etc, then why not ordering a killing?

The only thing that gives him pause is if the action would cause his poll numbers to go down.

13. Well, the squad that would assassinate someone here would, by definition,
be a "death" squad.

I'm sure Rove'll call it a "freedom" squad or "patriot" squad or whatever.

9. People who have died under strange circumstances:
The lady that accused * of getting her pregnant and forcing her to have an abortion. The Enron executive who was going to testify against Lay and "killed himself" in his car in Texas. Another one "killed himself" in Colorado. Senator Wellstone.

They kill who they want.

15. I went freeping earlier out of pure boredom and they had this story up...
too. Only, of course they thought it was great to let the Pres kill US citizens whenever he wants.

BTW, I managed to post all of twice (nothin offensive or against the rules) before I my posting ability was "revoked."

It was fun while it lasted...
