wiretapping: it's not about security, it's about (abuse of) power

the question was never WHETHER OR NOT to wiretap. OF COURSE the answer is YES, you wiretap, when appropriate. it's been that way at least as long as there's been a fisa court that granted warrants routinely for that purpose. NO ONE is disputing the wisdom of wiretapping when appropriate.

the question here is all about WARRANTS. do the banana republicans have the power to wiretap ANYONE at ANY TIME for ANY REASON, because THAT's what NO WARRANT NEEDED means.

the security advantage of not getting a warrant vs. getting a retroactive warrant from a secret court is NOTHING.

DO NOT let them change the subject and pretend this is a security issue. IT'S NOT.


it's all about power, the power of the shrubbies to spy on people for political reasons, prurient reason, personal reasons, whatever. ANYTHING BUT SECURITY, BECAUSE THEY ALREADY HAD THE POWER TO DO THAT.
