It saddens me to see our most ardent truth-tellers aging.
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 03:34 PM by SoCalDem
Bernie Sanders' collapse started me thinking.. Look at who we respect for speaking truth...and their ages:cry:

Carter
Zinn
Chomsky
Caldicott
Sanders
Kennedy
Conyers
Phil Donahue
Byrd (usually respect)

Most of the most outspoken spokespeople we have , cut their teeth in the sixties, and over the years, they have kind of been out there alone. It's like we thought they would always "be there"..

They are aging, and all during their most important years, right-leaning media has seen to it that their ideas were NOT put out in any meaningful way. During the last 30 years (their primes) we have had 8 Reagan years, 4 Bush1 years, 8 Clinton years that were hijacked by rightwing media, and now 8 more W years (w-is for wasted../in so many ways)..

Instead of seeing/hearing these bright people on the tube/radio, we have been treated
to an endless barrage of youngish,know-nothing right wingers.

As these folks leave us, there are few taking up their dropped batons.

Please remind me of some..I need an injection of hope..

7. We sure don;t get to see much of them either, do we?
and when we do, it's usually a critique of them and the way they dress or how red-faced they got or their beard or weight....NOT what they SAID

6. Look at who we are "offered"
Donna Brazile
Carville
Begala
Bob Shrum

It's no wonder that "Hollywood elites" have HAD to step forward.. There is no airtime given to liberals unless they are offered up to plug a movie, and then go off script" to inject some reality.. Then they get criticized for being "political"..:grr:

11. I wracked my brain tryiing to think of others
and couldn't.. Hell some shows have DAVID GERGEN "on the left", and he's a reaganite..That's how pathetic it is..

Zinn would show up, Chomsky would, Donahue would too, but they are NEVER asked, or if they ARE, it's only to be ganged up on by two or three "opposers", and they are interrupted so often, their message never gets presented..

This reminds me of the thread I was reading yesterday:

Everyone there was over fifty other then my husband and myself...

I have been looking for statistics ever since.

14. I think the party went "complacent" and trusted that people were
smarter than they apparently are.. We did not cultivate a "farm team"..

17. some of us youngins are trying to keep their legacies alive....
I have immeasurable respect for these people--especially Zinn and Chomsky, who both inspired me to write my thoughts down on paper instead of just shouting at the darkness.

Maybe that's not enough, but I plan to do the best I can for as long as I can to make sure that their work was not in vain.

18. Why are you all looking outside yourselves?
I'm not trying to start a fight, but why is everyone looking for someone else to pick up where these great thinkers and fighters are leaving off?

Listen, we are the heart of this movement. Why can't we stand up and do what needs to be done?

No one is going to fight our battles for us. We weren't made to be sheep.

I just wish you all had more faith in your own abilities...
