Do you think we'd be able to get away with the kind of hatemongering
the freepers do?

Remember, in the post-9/11 America, we as liberals do not have the same rights and privileges as they do. If we spewed bile like they did about how all our political opponents deserve to die, we'd all be in Gitmo.

Fortunately, for the most part, we are above that kind of behaviour.

2. I realize this may be giving federal authorities too much credit . . .
But I'd think they have to be watching Freeperland pretty closely for the very reasons you cite. The next time some blonde, blue-eyed terrorist blows up a federal building in the heartland, it's pretty close to certain he'll have posted on Free Republic (or maybe just lurked).

But to your original point, yes, I think that "political opponents" voicing calls to violence would unnerve 'em more than those who pose as friends of the administration -- and would call down a much more serious response.

On one hand, this is infuriating -- it's so manifestly unfair -- but on the other hand, it does show who's closer to being on the side of the angels.

6. You bring up a great point
I've never seen or heard of the Oklahoma City or any abortion clinic bombings referred to as terrorist acts.

7. And when we're communicating with the undecided . . .
We need to remind them that you're just as dead when your murderer was born in the same town as you.

9. You're right
From a HuffPo Blog by Gene Stone about FR:

Sometimes the comments are so harsh the freeper must be temporarily thrown off the board; usually these remarks center not on hate, but on thoughts of actual murder. One freeper who was ejected said, "There is only one solution to the Klintons, two 45 rounds and a nice little spot in Marcy Park."

3. I rationally hate george bush
and I do so because of the truth. I use facts very loudly to share my disdain for the man. I welcome engagement on political subjects. I have discovered that truth laced with a little volume trumps spin and talking points every time.

10. There was a book written by Ben Stein....
I forget the title.

I was in a Borders and I saw it in the 'politics' section so I picked it up.

I think it was the introduction I read.

He went on about how there was so much hatred in this country. And how it was all the Liberals who had irrational hatred for Bush that he just couldn't explain or fathom.
Now since I know he's not a moron, it's obvious he's supporting the BA agenda. I'm sure in part because he loves his tax cuts, but I'm sure there's more to it.

When a relatively respected and intelligent person like Ben Stein, who understands academic diligence and could easily conceive of why there is so much disdain for Bush, writes something so blatantly ignorant and disparaging with utter disregard for legitimate and greivances, you know there is a great ulterior motive driving these forces of ignorance.

Ben Stein believes himself to be much smarter than those who would rampantly spread the truth and potentially ruin our great agenda. Yes, we know that America is on the verge of collapse and her only hope may well be the invasion of Oil Producing countries. Yes, if all Americans knew the truth and realized that this war was illegal, we'd impeach these monsters and have to turn and face the truth...

We should have listened to Jimmy Carter. But now is not the time to place blame and lash out in a desperate attempt to protect the dollar from collapse, now is the time to put the problem in the hands of the people, not the corporations or the politicians, in order to awaken the innovation that is the trademark of America.

I lost much respect for the man after reading that... even though I understood what he is trying to do.

May God have mercy on us all.

11. Much of the right wing opinion columns of late
are saying how terrible it is to call someone a liar. Tending to their marching orders. To call bush, cheney, rice, and on and on and on liars is like saying two plus two equals four. That's not so terrible. The man deserted his military unit to avoid a drug test. I'm a veteran. There is absolutely nothing irrational about my hate. I find ben stein to be a borderline lunatic buffoon.

13. Ben Stein is a lifetime Repub, and he worked for Nixon
(who he still thinks got a raw deal). 'Nuff said. In some areas, he comes across as very bright, but I just can't wrap my mind around his politics.

8. I heard someone make a good point last week.
Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 01:48 PM by SpaceCatMeetsMars
It was on that show "The View," which is a show that I think is horrible. But that Joy Behar woman is pretty cool. She said that she is a comedian, and made the point that a comedian will never make a joke about killing a public official. Why? Because it is illegal. She said, "So why is Ann Coulter allowed to make 'jokes' about killing public officials?"

I think there WOULD be a big uproar if a comedian said things like Coulter does, but instead that sicko is treated like a media darling.

Also, she and O'Reilly are deliberately trying to stir up violence against the left and the left blogosphere, by pretending to be victims of "violence" supposedly directed at them. It's obvious they are projecting, but not to any potentially violent people that listen to them.

14. Wow
we must get a different version of DU or something.

The one I read is full of spew, bile and the occasional desire to wipe out portions of the population.

Only reason I bother reading. Keeps me interested in life.
