President protects us

Molly Ivins has brought us back to Sept. 10, 2001. Thanks Molly.

As usual, Ms. Ivins has been given the opportunity to spew half-truths in your paper. The First Amendment gives her the right to speak, and maybe her columns are of interest to al-Jazeera.

Ms. Ivins, you are one of the ACLU’s finest soldiers. The president still has the prevention of another Sept. 11 attack foremost on his mind, even as much as the rest of political culture has lapsed back to Sept. 10, when we hamstrung our own surveillance and law-enforcement capabilities in blissful unawareness of the enemy that was about to slaughter 3,000 Americans.

After Sept. 11, Congress declared that “the president has authority under the Constitution to take action to deter and prevent acts of international terrorism” and authorized “all necessary and appropriate force” against all threats to our country. Let’s not forget, the Senate subcommittee was briefed 12 times regarding national security operations.

The Democrats think they are on a beach, but it’s actually quicksand. Maybe they’ll get back in the game of defending this country instead of offending it.

He also has no clue what the Congress authorized Bush to do. If he wants a dictatorship, fine-but not in my country, thank you.

Personally, I thought September 10 was pretty good. I don't see why it is they hate going back to it so much.

As I recall, it was a pretty okay day for me too. I believe it was my first day of college...

Picks facts that support what he wants to say, and pretends the facts that negate it don't exist.

First, i don't want an idiot like Bush "defending" me. He's incompetent.

Secondly, "all necessary and approrpriate force" doesn't even semantically approach "spying". They're two different things.

Lastly, the letter writer is the one "offending" this country. I know his lack of intellect is offending me!
