2. I'd heard that it was a failure.....but is that an excuse to stop having
public schools in NOLA??

I understand there are now no public schools operating....if so, doesn't that mean my child can't attend school unless I am able to pay the demanded tuition??

3. No...I didn't mean to sound like it was.
I'm a product of the NOLA public school system, luckily attending the only decent magnet school they had. I think the one good thing that can come out of Katrina is to start completely over again. And that takes time. In the meantime, there are kids to be educated. I don't care what kind of school can help with that in the short term.

4. Which school? And when?
Or at least, which decade, since the school system has changed. The state has taken over the public schools, for the most part. There haven't been very many kids here. Those that came back early went to the private system. My sense is that most people recognize the #2 long term priority (after the levees) is public education. Whether it gets fixed will depend on who gets elected in April, or whenever the elections will be held.

5. The schools have become worse since I went through the system
in the 70s and 80s. I still have family there. I agree on your priorities, but it will still take time. No matter how few kids are there, the ones that are need education NOW.
