Bush LIE. Claims to support free press, but US press ranks 44th in world
When Bush took office the ranking for freedom of the press for our country was already at an uncomfortable 17th place. Since then, Bush's White House has kept an iron grip on the throats of the media in this country and our ranking has dropped to 44th place.

Bush's latest comments being shown on the cable news shows today extolling the import of a free press is just more delusion for the American people.

1. You read it here, thanks to our free press
Sure, we're 44th, but look at how successful the Super Bowl was!

And, look over there! Something shiny!

Sorry, I was possessed by a wandering Republican spirit momentarily. A couple of puffs off my freedom pipe should take care of it...

3. 44th? The press should be revolting at that great of a loss...
Then again, I find it pretty revolting to watch CNN and Faux News most of the time now.

6.  International Press Association and Reporters Without Borders to name 2.

7. Let's see why Reporters Without Borders have dropped the USA to 44th
The United States (44th) fell more than 20 places, mainly because of the imprisonment of New York Times reporter Judith Miller and judicial action that is undermining the privacy of journalistic sources. Federal courts are getting increasingly bold about subpoenaing journalists and trying to force them to disclose their confidential sources.

We ought to be honest: I think most of DU wanted Judith Miller to be forced to reveal her source. That is a major reason for the decline in the USA rating.
