I would turn into a Bushbot if they came for me {detention camps}
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 06:46 PM by quinnox
I know this isn't the most patriotic thing to do speaking as a loyal Democrat, but if these detention camps were real and they came for me I would all of a sudden turn into a first class Bush lover and say I have seen the light. Things like, "Oh Officer, I have decided Bush is not the worst president at all but one of the best and a shining example for future presidents!" or "Officer, I have reconsidered and now see it was wrong and un-American to be against Bush, now I will be a loyal good American and praise him every chance I get"

I understand this is not popular, but survival is my main goal in this scenario! Screw politics in this case. IMHO

2. Maybe we can get the country back and use those camps for
Bushbots, Evangelical nutjobs and such.

P.S. you should be ashamed of yourself.

12. Why don't you start early so you can collect a big salary ala Limbag
Coulter, Hannity and the other Bushbots. Surely they don't believe any of the BS they are spouting either, but at least they are rewarded w cash.

Then you could give it all to Dem causes etc.

17. No you wouldn't.......you'd go down fighting with the rest of us...
and maybe then, someone who survived you...a child or a grandchild, would hold you up as an example, a brick in the foundation of a new America......a nation that re-embraced the freedom of 1776.....

18. not me, i would never sell my soul or my nation..i would go with
my head held high ..if you sell your soul , there is no reason to live

and i will not sell my nation to this fascism without a fight, nor my real American values

i will not sink to the level of evil or the fear they so cheaply propagandize ..to protect myself from their evil..

to many have fought for me to have my freedoms..if i can do so little to fight for what those before me fought for..than i do not deserve to live in this nation.
It is my obligation to future generations, to fight..and if that means i get incarcerated fighting for the very values given to me as an American..then they will have to take me kicking , screaming , biting..and fighting my ass off..but i will fight so my children will be saved from these evil son of a bitches!

20. Funny, my hubby and I were just talking about that last evening.
I'm afraid I'd do just the opposite. I don't begrudge you for feeling the way that you do, though. It's understandable. I just couldn't, personally, ever subscribe to their bullshit. I just couldn't do it. I believe what I believe because I honor the values and principles of our country. I would never turn my back on them. Ever.

Peace.

22. Same here.
I have my reasons, if it came down to that. Basically survival, but if anybody has a qualm with my mindset, I dare them to PM me and ask for details while convincing me to stand my ground. It might lead to some fun debates.

I prefer working with people. Not against them. And I've got some useful technical abilities. Just left misused, particularly by a bunch of people not worth their fancy degrees... (A degree doesn't measure as much ability as it is the ability to pass a test, based on the mindset of those who compiled it. Someone with a brain needn't look at a book every 2 minutes to look up the diagnosis of the week and to see how many people can be shoehorned into it... yet many with "Masters" degrees seem to "go by the book" rather than taking time to properly research. It's utterly incredible (and aggrevating) to know these fools make 2x the wage I make!) ((BTW: You now have a hint as to why I'd be inclined to change my mind if what you suggest is true...))

And assuming they'd give us a chance of course, we'd be tested, yadda yadda yadda. How well can you do things that "go against the grain"? (with peak oil coming, some of what they are doing has a callous ring of truth to it... I've made numerous posts as this being why and nobody seems to acknowledge. Out of incredulous fear, perhaps?)

OTOH, people have been known to change and come around. Lesse, what was his nickname again, "Wookie"? Of course, there IS something of a mammoth difference between slaughtering a bunch of people in cold blood just to look macho to all your "friends" and the politics you believe in...

BTW: I think all this talk of "detention camps" is a load of hogwash. As with everything else in life, I'd rather not fall into the well of hyperbole based on comments or articles that may have been taken out of context. And I've been wrong before...

24. You might surprise yourself.
Many years ago I was arrested for protesting a gathering of white supremacists. I didn't have any big plans, just show up with my sign, etc. But when I was told to put down my sign or face arrest, I got angry. Really angry. The white power dudes had the right to march; why not me?

I'm a small woman, it was a big cop. But I wanted to tear his face off. Needless to say, I didn't quite do that, but I got really ornery and didn't slouch away quietly like they wanted, got arrested, etc.

You might be too pissed-off to act like a Bush lover!

27. what would I do?
I hope I would fight courageously, but I will never know until put in that situation.

Fortunately, with the impending police state, there has already been many opportunities to practice defending yourself against over armed gestapo. UNF meetings in fla, the repub convention in nyc. plenty of free speech zones and excessive use of force and disregard for constitutional rights.

American Police in many large cities have already gotten alot of practice herding protesters like the Nazi's herded jews early on.

30. Exactly, you never know.
Personally, now that I have kids, I've turned into something of a coward. I had a burning desire to do freeway blogging recently, on a trip out of town (no freeways here...), but realized that if I got arrested my kids would be way, way freaked out. So I didn't.

But in extreme situations, you never know how you'll act --

28. Thats ridiculous!
You honestly think this Nazi administration has less respect for us than they do the bushbots?!
They don't even believe their own bullshit, so the fact that they still have so many who believe their lies is a joke to them!

The Jews who turned on their own people during Hitlers reign weren't protected in the end anymore than anyone else.

They can go to hell, I will not forsake MYSELF and my FAMILY with allegience to a mass murderer!

29. Have you really thought this through?
My decision would be based on my family. I don't know - when I think of the horrific guilt the "good Germans" lived with after WWII. How they just tried to get along. How they must have felt hearing the stories of the heroes that risked their lives, their families, to help those who needed it.

How people risked the same thing to help those on the Underground Railroad, the good country doctors that helped give women safe abortions, risking their livelihoods and prison sentences. Without people willing to risk their comfort and safety for strangers because it was the right thing to do, the world would fall apart and evil would win.

Could I live with myself, look at myself through my children's eyes if I caved to be "safe" and left others to suffer?

I just don't think I could do it. In the end - it is my face I have to look at in the mirror. My own tortured thoughts I would roll over and over in my head as I drifted off to sleep each night.

The price for complacency would be too high. Too, too high.
