A message for Paul Hackett
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 11:48 PM by Mythsaje
I'm not sure why I'm even writing this, except for the fact I think it's possible he or someone close to him might choose to check out DU and pass the word along.

Fuck the Democratic Party if they won't stand by him. We need a no-nonsense guy like him out there telling it like it is, not playing at conciliation with those who would destroy everything our country stands for.

My advice to Paul...Go Bull Moose on their ass. And, no, I don't mean he needs to emulate that mealy-mouthed blogger who can't figure out which side of the fence he's on, but instead emulate the attitude and actions of another veteran who wasn't known for rolling over when asked.

He has the support of thousands, if not millions, for being a straight shooter and standing up for progressive ideals. WE would never have abandoned him...

Please don't let him abandon US.

Edited for a typo

5. me too
i just don't understand the logic. we are going to abandon a house seat from some guy who thinks he can win the senate seat. HACKETT can win the senate seat. I am so sick of Schumer and reid right now, they have just pushed my limit. This has become one big clusterfuck and we need to take the party back from these freaks. We are all that is left my friends.

10. This isn't the end of the world.
I like Hackett a lot, but Sherrod Brown is an excellent candidate. Check out his stuff:

http://www.house.gov/sherrodbrown/issuesfairaq.htm

Congressman Brown was an early and strong voice in opposition to the war in Iraq, arguing the President had many questions to answer before committing U.S. troops.
Prior to the invasion of Iraq, Congressman Brown introduced H.J. Res. 24, the Presidential Report on Iraq Resolution of 2003.

This bill would have required President Bush to answer many of the questions he still has failed to account for, including: war costs, short and long-term effects on our military, a plan for economic and social stability, steps taken to ensure troop safety, a timetable and a plan for withdrawal.

If these questions had been answered or considered before the invasion, the American people might not be dealing with many of the current negative developments in Iraq.

Congressman Brown continues to be a vocal advocate for increased Congressional oversight of the hundreds of billions in U.S. taxpayer dollars spent in Iraq.

He has also joined his colleagues in cosponsoring the H.J. Res 55, the bipartisan Homeward Bound Act, the latest effort by Members of Congress to urge the president to develop and implement a long-overdue plan for the withdrawal of United States Armed Forces from Iraq.

===

PDA is supporting Brown in this race, and we are happy to do so.

22. Risky?
Risky that Brown might lose...or risky that Brown might lose after being weakened by a primary challenge?

24. as in
is his house seat that he currently holds in a safe district to go Dem if
he leaves to run (risk) for Senate ?

I'm Glad the Senate Seat is being challenged whomever is the Dem
Challenger .

When I read the line that Paul might pull out of politics altogether
it hit me like a punch in the gut . I hope Paul goes for a congressional
seat or something . I feel he has a lot to offer the Party and the
country.

"I'll run for the House seat if all the other current candidates drop out voluntarily". Just a thought.

25. I don't care how good a candidate Brown
is, Paul Hackett was willing to run and he had national exposure. It should never be that the party picks, that's what the primarys are for so that the voters could choose. No wonder they say both parties are alike hell if you don't make it up the ladder because of seniority that is not the new popular candidates fault. this is bullshit. If they did go behind his back to stop his donors from donating then hell I'm through with this party also, I'm through with the wole goddamn thing We aren't any better than the repukes.

No offense to Kerry, I think he is a talented, brilliant and loyal man and would have been delighted if he had won even if I did work for Clark, but wasn't the mantra we heard was that he was the most electable?

31. Paul speaks for me
This is not democracy, where the people pick their leaders. The leaders in the Democratic Party picked and it was based on who had the most money. It is things like this that turn people off of politics instead of getting them involved. I would have sent money to support Hackett. I will not send money now. I was a fan of Reid and I am not anymore. The party needs new leadership. They need someone who will fight and won't back down. Reid won't do that. Paul Hackett would have.
