Two articles on the same incident in Stafford, VA

STAFFORD, Va. (AP) - The Stafford County sheriff's office says an apparent hunting accident has taken the life of a 7-year-old boy.

Sheriff Charles Jett says the incident happened Saturday off Mountain View Road.

Major David Decatur says the boy has been identified as Luke Howard Wyatt. He was pronounced dead Monday at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

Authorities aren't identifying the person who shot the boy.

STAFFORD -- A 7-year-old boy who was shot in the head in a hunting-related accident during the weekend died Sunday, Stafford County authorities said yesterday.

Luke H. Wyatt and his father were part of a group preparing to go goose hunting Saturday morning when the shooting occurred, Stafford Sheriff Charles Jett said.

An unidentified person in the hunting party was loading a 12-gauge shotgun in the rear of a sport utility vehicle when the firearm discharged and projectiles struck the boy, who was outside the vehicle, Jett said.

Members of the group transported the child to a nearby rescue squad station, and he was taken from there to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

4. 7 is kinda young for hunting IMHO...
Hell, I'm not his father, but I can say that he could have waited a few years.

5. That was my first thought. WTF is 7-year-old doing going hunting?
Or being anywhere NEAR firearms?

Disclaimer: I'm a gun owner.

7. Could have been. Wasn't.
The problem is careless hunters. I still don't think a 7-year old belongs anywhere near hunting.

9. I dont think anyone
under 18 belongs anywhere near hunting. The saddest thing I've seen lately was a guy taking his 12 year old daughter out to hunt--she messed up a deer and spent hours looking for it with no luck. She looked pretty stunned.

Weird "sport" for children. Not a good family thing.
