Cheney apology is coming .... I just feel it.
I will bet anybody that sometime in the next few days Dick is going to offer an apology.
Something about how the situation could have been handled better and how he wants
the American people to know that he supports and is cooperative w/ law enforcement and
how his concern for his (good / fine / long time) friend was always uppermost in his mind.

It will come before a "clean crowd" Heritage Institute, AEI, conservative rich oil men of Texas,
College Republicans, NRA, service personal, or a fundy church.

He will also call for prayers for Mr W. and for everybody to move forward with America's business
and our war on terror.

I will bet everything in Skinner's wallet on payday.

life expectancy even if he "recovers." As a former hunter I find the whole story pretty hard to swallow too. Never having shot a human with a shotgun I have no idea of the penetration of a #7 1/2 at some distance from the muzzle. I find all the talk of 28 gauge being a "light gun" foolish, the pellets from a 28 are traveling at about the same clip as the pellets from a 10 or 12 gauge would be, there are just less of them. Probably a 28 gauge is going to have a tighter choke than a 12 or 20 gauge for shooting rising birds to make up for the smaller charge and Whittington might have been better off being hit by a bigger bore gun that threw a wider pattern.

When I was young and poor (as opposed to old and poor like I am now) I hunted ruffed grouse and woodcock with a 20 gauge single shot that had the barrel cut down to about 20 inches, straight cylinder. With 3 inch magnums and number 7 1/2 I never had problems knocking them down.

22. The pattern is way to tight to be a 30 yd blast.
And the depth of penetration (jacket, hunting vest, shirt, skin and chest wall) doesn't make
sense either.

None of the story passes the smell test.

But i suppose if you lie to start a war, have 52 warnings about 9/11 and do nothing, kill 70 pheasants
in one morning, steal elections, and let the energy companies write US law .... i suppose lying about
this "accident" shouldn't bother you.

23. Found this, unfortunately doesn't give range:
Many people load their shotguns with birdshot, usually #6 shot or smaller, to minimize interior wall penetration. Number 6 lead birdshot, when propelled at 1300 fps, has a maximum penetration depth potential of about 5 inches in standard ordnance gelatin. Not all of the pellets penetrate this deeply however; most of the shot will penetrate about 4 inches.

4. hey, at least that'll shut the Freepers
and their 'pellet gun' bullshit up! Yes, he was hit with pellets the size of b-b's. MANY of them, at VERY HIGH VELOCITY COMING OUT OF THE MUZZLE OF A 28 GAUGE SHOTGUN 25 YARDS AWAY. If the injuries really aren't that bad, then why haven't we seen any "after" photos of the victim and why has he had a heart attack because some "b-b's" may have punctured his HEART!!!!!!!!

Can you answer that?

18. "It is unfortunate that the media has seen fit to take advantage
of this unfortunate occasion, when an elderly man makes the mistake of walking in front of a cloud of bird shot, to score cheap partisan points. This entire episode points once again to the fact that the national media can not be trusted, except when receiving leaks directly from the President."

The White House is going 24/7 to put this story behind them

I might be wrong but I get a feeling Dick has to say something
the longer he waits the worse it gets.

Or a written statement.

But issue an apology himself? The Dickster can't even spell apology.
