Larry ODonnell: Cheney behavior identical to Ted Kennedy's at
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 10:14 PM by Gabi Hayes
Chappaquiddick

"No republican doesn't think Kennedy wasn't drunk that night. No republican doesn't believe he waited til the next day to report it so he could appear sober."

he says the media is helping the junta by asking the wrong questions, as usual.

says they're consumed at going after them for waiting to talk, refusing to talk, etc., INTEAD of going after the forensics of the shooting: were they drunk, how far away was he from the victim

it's on Majority Report right now

very interesting

"what--and WHY-- did Rove tell the president to get him to wait til enough time passes to smooth things over...." something like that.

then Janeane breaks in with Gannon sleeping at the WH with Rove...throws him for a loop.

ODonnell "always liked Rove when I ran into him during the 2000 campaign....I always like mob guys, too"

3. I think you're missing the point....he was making an invidious

comparison....not aspersing Kennedy, merely highlighting the very suspicious behavior exhibited by Cheney, etal, as well as usual media complicity

and Kennedy, after all, was the leading Dem contender for president at the time

my favorite theory on that: Mary Jo was sleeping in back seat, unbeknownst to Kennedy and the woman he drove off with. they went off the bridge, swam away, thinking they'd gotten off easy. didn't even know the poor woman was passed out/drowning.

4. Chap. and Shooting ARE alike - both were covering up the fact that marrie
married men were out with women to whom they were not married. That is the reason for the 20 hour delay and why the MSM media is not talking about it just proves what we already know - the power of the Republicans is overwhelming.

7. O'Donnell also said that the important questions never enter
the MSM minds. They just accept whatever the official story line is...they are just pissed because they weren't the 1st ones to be notified.

so maybe it isn't a conspiracy with the press, they are just plain ole incompetent!

10. I agree except that Cheney doesn't have the excuse

that he had to escape from a car submerged under water and then attempt to rescue a trapped passenger. There's no question he'd been drinking but I believe it's possible that Teddy was in shock until the following day, not merely trying to sober up. Cheney experienced no such physical shock so why wait fourteen hours to chat with the sheriff? It smells like a cover-up related to being sure his blood alcohol level didn't cause him any legal problems.

For thirty-some years we've had to listen to the self-righteous rightwingnuts bring up Chappaquiddick when it's completely irrelevant to a discussion, always spouting off as if all Democrats approve of Teddy's drunk driving and failure to report the accident that night. Perhaps now that the shoe is on the other foot, they'll speak no more of Chappaquiddick. You may be sure they'll cry foul if we mention Cheney's behavior after shooting Whittington, but it's the obvious comeback whenever they try to play the Chappaquiddick card.

It's also important to remember that this case, like Chappaquiddick, involves married men socializing with women who are not their wives. The right wing spread scurrilous gossip about Kennedy's relationship with Mary Jo Kopechne, unsupported gossip that hurt her family a great deal. Will they also demand to know who was bunking with who at the Armstrong Ranch? Will they assume the worst? Of course not, because they think all their leaders are moral paragons. You know, like Newt Gingrich, Bob Barr, Henry Hyde, Bob Livingston. Fucking hypocrites (pun intended.)

Many friends are dumbfounded when I mention that Laura Bush ran someone down with her car.

12. Cheney had lots of help
in this cover-up. Unlike Kennedy, who was alone and probably in shock, Cheney was surrounded by people who kept the authorities away from him.

If Whittington dies this will be much worse than Chappaquadick. It adds a whole other layer to the tragedy.
