I don't always pay attention to the advertising on the left hand column, but yesterday the PBS Frontline Meth ad caught my eye. Even though I wasn't around I set the VCR to catch it. Yep, I'm an old geezer, no TiVo in my house!
Anyway, a very decent program about meth in general, but more about how we have the Reagan administration to thank for the problem and how the big drug companies have fought tooth and nail to preserve their niche in the cold medicine market, which, of course, is the foundation chemical for the drug.
Now, I am no drug prohibitionist, and I am actually pretty heavy on the legalization side, but Meth is unlike any other and the effects are devastating. I work, in real life, with some programs that deal with the fallout of the epidemic of Meth abuse. What I found particularly compelling in this program was the unbelievable correlation of the purity of meth against the rate of addiction. The charts were some of the most compelling data I have ever seen.
I haven't finished watching it yet, but damn, that's good tv. Do yourself a favor and click on the links and either stream (when available) or find out when you can watch this program.
edit - don't know left from right.
