Remember the War? KR reports some bleak and disturbing news from Iraq
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 01:22 AM by Rose Siding
SAMARRA, Iraq
snip>
"Strap those motherf-----s to the hood like a deer," said Staff Sgt. James Robinson, 25, of Hughes, Ark.
The soldiers heaved the two bodies onto the hood of a Humvee and tied them down with a cord. The dead insurgents' legs and arms flapped in the air as the Humvee rumbled along.
Iraqi families stood in front of the surrounding houses. They watched the corpses ride by and glared at the American soldiers.
...
"It's apocalyptic out there. Life has definitely gotten worse for" Iraqis, said Maj. Curtis Strange, 36, of Mobile, Ala., who works with Iraqi troops in Samarra. "You see Samarra and you almost want to build a new city and move all these people there."
...
"Samarra is one example of many towns in Iraq that are barely functioning," said Capt. Ryan Edwards, 31, of Plain City, Ohio, who majored in Middle Eastern studies at West Point. "What the insurgents know is that we lack the will to go after them. It's not the American Army that lacks the will; it's the American people and their leadership."
...
The 2nd platoon and two others - about 120 men total - are based at the Alamo and at another base on the edge of town. They replaced three companies from the 3rd Infantry Division that had a total of more than 400 soldiers.
"If they ever figure out that we don't have many guys here we'll be in trouble," said 1st Lt. Dennis Call, who commands the 2nd platoon. "If we're out on patrol with just seven guys, like usual, and we take two casualties we'll get messed up."

2. This is criminal
You don't run an occupation this way and you don't treat your soldiers like that.

Time to get the civilians out of military matters.

"If they ever figure out that we don't have many guys here we'll be in trouble,"

22. An infantry platoon usually contains 45 men. This one had 8 if the
Lieutenant isn't counting himself.

8. "...there is no f------ reason"
"No one told me why I'm putting my life on the line in Samarra, and you know why they didn't?" Pena asked. "Because there is no f------ reason."

Sort of says it all.

They got fragged from INSIDE the Iraqi police station. There's a report in LBN about the US identifying a death squad operation from within the Iraqi Interior Ministry.

FUBAR.

11. We are rapidly approaching the bottom, if not already there...
I was wondering when the shell was gonna crack.
As weird as it sounds, I think this shooting thing is finally going to lay the facade transparent.

Stories like the one in your post would not have made print in the not too distant past.

13. This is OUR disgrace! Recommended reading for every single one of us!
How much longer do we allow this to go on in our name? What state of mind will these people be dealing with, when they finally try to return to normalcy, meaning not only the Iraqis, but our own soldiers, too? What makes anyone think that Sunni area will ever be in better straits, given the conditions of Iraq's new "constitution"?

I'd like to hear what Murtha has to say about this article! It verifies every point he has been trying to drive home to the rest of the war mongers for so long.

14. American people and their leadership... "lack the will to go after them."
Why? Because it's THREE freaking years into this thing that was supposed to be a few months? Because some of us SAID AT THE TIME it would be a quagmire? Because it has cost towards a HALF A TRILLION dollars? Because whenhn we go after them, it doesn't do any good, except create new atrocities and new enemies (and that was predicted, too)? Because some of us predicted that there were no WMD and there WEREN'T?

We've heard this before. I've heard this before. I remember it well. I grew up during VIETNAM!

21. Military Vs Education
Why is it that when the Military fails we never point the finger at them but blame the American people for not lacking the will to succeed? We'll throw any amount of money and human life at a problem. Can you imagine the same response to funding programs like education? We fault the teachers and school systems without ever pointing fingers at "the will of the people".

Why is there not a "No Terrorist Left Behind"? If certain army units are not defeating the bad guys at increasing rates then their funding should be in jeopardy until they do start showing progress.

Isn't that the American way?

16. If we could see the reality in the corporate media
this would not continue.

The media in this nation are guilty of a vast conspiracy to hide the truth from the American people. No amount of $$$$$ can ever buy back the integrity lost and the trust forsaken.

Then we still might have something close to objective journalism... So that much money can buy! Unfortunately, it still looks like this news organization might get eaten up later by the corporfacsists.

Calling Ted Turner or George Soros!!

And, the "insurgency" has failed according to the bosses.

About the same way that Tet was an American "victory" and Custer had the Indians surrounded.

23. The use of a shotgun (if it was firing buckshot vs a slug) is illegal
according to the Geneva Convention. M4's jamming ... sounds live M-15's in VN, same shit different war. Can't trust the Police - we couldn't trust ARVN troops in Vietnam. Yeah this ain't Vietnam - if it were Vietnam there would be a jungle ... yada yada yada. I feel very bad for everyone caught up in this shit.

Duck Cheney what do you think about all of this?

Duck says "Halliburton's stock is up. What's good for business is good for Murrica. PULL.
